I need to get a bunch of tar spots off a white SUV. What is the best bug and tar remover ya'll have used?

A claybar. :) Seriously. I use one on my GF's Eclipse pretty regularly. Works wonders. I swear by one.

I've got (2) from Zaino. Mother's makes one also and is probably equally as good as the one from Zaino. The Mother's one is available at any reputable auto parts store. :)

any kind really.. i think alot of guys use mothers' clay bar... i personally use
Griots' stuff usually works a lil better ;)

here's the scoop on the mothers stuff...

07240.jpg

California Gold® Clay Bar System
You’ve heard about clay bars—professional detailers, body men and your car buddies all talk about how they work. Now use the clay bar everybody wants. Created to remove the particulate debris and contaminants that washing and polishing can’t, our exclusive Clay Bar System will remove embedded grains of metal, tree sap, airborne environmental deposits and paint overspray. Better yet, our clay bar isn’t hazardous to your paint—it’s just firm enough to pick up the bad stuff, without being too aggressive. Use Mothers® Clay Bar to get rid of paint fouling grime and pave the way for complete waxing.
#07240 includes 80 gram Clay Bar, 16 oz. Showtime® Instant Detailer, 4 oz. Carnauba Cleaner Wax.

got that off the mothers website... http://www.mothers.com/products/

If you don't want to go the clay bar route. I've used Turtlewax Bug & Tar remover with good results. I rinse the truck, spray the remover on. Let it work a few minutes. Then with a sudsy sponge or wash rag, wipe them away.

+1 to that.. i got the exact same stuff and just use a sponge to wipe it off :D

I have to agree with sharpi on the griots garage detailing materials, I swear by all thier stuff....

WD-40 works great on tar, And will not harm the finish. Spray on a cloth, And rub gently.

Yeah I agree with the wheel cleaner, and the glass wipes I am not happy with, pretty much I use the hell out of the spray wax and clay bar, I use 3m high gloss paste wax, and wham the truck is perfect and so slick.

Visit your local auto paint supplier and get a gallon of their house brand 'Wax and Grease' remover. The tar will wipe off like dust on freshly waxed finish. ;) Will not harm paint, plastic, bare metals etc etc. Will cost you about $12 and last you for years. Best stuff you've ever used....trust me.

I am still looking for the perfect product, however, Griots Clay bar is the best I have used so far. But I prefer Meguairs wax vs. Griots. I bought that Griots Detailing kit with the buffer and I hate the wax.

For some reason the water just sits on my truck with it...with Meguiars it falls off....

I have used Meguairs, Zaino's, and Griots clay bars and Griots is by far the best.
