Coming home last Saturday on a 2 lane road. A C5 Vette pulled out ahead of me and accelerated hard. Followed him for about 2 miles at 70mph. Decided to pass him, downshifted to 4th and pulled into the other lane. About the time I got in the other lane, I heard him take off and I hit mine as well. We went from 70 to 115 at a stand still (I didn't gain or lose on him). Coming upon a hill (two lane road) so I have to back off and pull in behind him.

I have a 2005 RC. The only mod is a magnaflow catback. I was really surprised that I could stay even with him from 70 to 115. I would assume this would mean I could take him starting from a slower speed. What do you guys think? Has anyone tangled with a C5? I have a ZR1 Vette and seat of the pants says that my RC would be no match for it. What are the C5's - about 340 HP?

Sorry I couldn't take him but my foot would only go so far!

345 HP is ringing a bell in my head. 405 for the C5 Z06. Your ZR1 should take a C5.

You were only in 4th at 70 and keeping up?? That is a 3rd gear down shift :)

c5 are rated at 345 hp, about 307hp to the wheels stock, Z06 the hp goes up to 405 in the later years. C5 to the wheel horsepower there is alot to be had. One good thing about ls1 motors is they respond to mods, very well. Pretty much ever bolt on other then heads, cam you can get up to about 370 rwhp or more with a tune. With a simple cam and heads, very streetable your pushing close to 500 or more rwhp, add a supercharger and that , get ya to 700 range in a streeable vette is pretty common.

Stock for Stock your truck should stay with in close range. When i drive my C5 its quick as hell with only a few mods, My truck is allso quick stock compared for what it is a 5700 pound truck.

To me they seem about equal. I will certianly let you guys know, hopefull will make it to the track ( 1/8th mile) this Thursday and run my friends 2000 c5 or whenever i get my G-TECH i will post the times of my truck and my own vette

If anything a C5 might be a tad faster, but he will not walk the dog on you in a superior way

Stock for stock we can take a C5 all day long, decisively so, even the Zo6s (I took a yellow one this moring). C6s are a little more of a challenge, but if they're stock it's a good race. A C6 Z06 on the other hand, would eat our lunch.

I'm sorry texas yellow, but that just isnt quite correct. You might be able to "hang" with a c5 sixspeed, maybe even beat a c5 auto...... but a c5 zo6 (i have had 2 of them).... noooooooo way. I beat my own qc when it had 625rwhp with my bone stock yellow one. And I was running mid to low 12's at the time. (my truck is faster now and spanks it).
The 01 (385hp) and the 02-04 (405hp) run EASY low mid 12's@116-118 with the stock tires. Put drag radials on them and they can break into 11's. I'm not saying that you didnt beat a yellow c-5 zo6, just that maybe he forgot to take it out of 6th gear when he raced you......... :)
Anything can happen on the street of course, but your talking about a car that has had at least three different drivers run high 11's in TOTALLY bone stock form. Pretty impressive for only 405 hp. No disrespect intended!:)

I have both vehicle right now. 2000 C5 Corvette and 04 Ram SRT10.
The vette came stock with 350 hp. It also has CAI, B&B Catback and PCM tune.

My truck will edge out the vette up to about 100 mph when aerodynamics kick in and vette catches up and starts pulling away.

I don't think the truck could handle a Z06 unless the vette driver was totally inept.;)

Depends on the driver.... but my Z will obliterate my truck and a RC SRT as well.... given equal drivers...

I messed with a black C5 this morning, actually both me and my bro's SRT-8 messed with him. He couldn't hang! Surprised the hell out of me. Now I think a Z06 any year would be harder to beat. How fast is Mrs. Holdens Vette?

I did a short run against a C5 2 weeks ago, he could not pass me, then he just gave up. If it would have had a better driver I'm sure it would have been a much tougher race.

Bill.

Try dropping it to 3rd next time. You would have had a better jump.

Should have started in third but didn't know we were going to race. Could have still shifted to third after the race started but didn't for whatever reason.

Not sure if shifting to third after the race started and then having to shift back to 4th would have been a net gain or not. Mine is an 05 with 4.56 gears so third wouldn't have lasted long...

C5's have not been a problem, but several Z06's have handed me my ass.

They seem to be much quicker than my truck.

last night at the track 1/8th
there was a c5 with c6 rims, didnt look to suped up, but probally had a few bolt on's , he only ran once or twice from what i saw, so probally was a stock car he just wanted to see what it would do.

his run was 9.0
my best run was 9.1

I beat a 2006 Z06 @ the 1/8 track w/ my old 18's w/ nittos. I would have tore him up with the 16's, but needless, there quick cars!
