Ok guys... discuss... Im hesitant to claim this one... but heres how it went down...

So I see a yellow Z06 in front of me on the highway, and I say to myself... "lets see if i can interest him in a little fun"... Not sure what year, but definitely a C5 Z06... badged, brake ducts, plate reads Z0Sick, nice wheels, pretty loud exhaust... I get up next to him and he slows to about 65... he would not go any slower... after cruising side by side a bit I start a 3 honk... we both hit it, and i jump him a little bit simply because i hit it first... he then stays at or behind my rear bumper until we let out well into triple digits....

Now i'll be the first to admit, it doesnt add up in my mind, I expected tail lights, and quickly! Anyone else have any experience against C5s? What you guys think?...

No way. The Z06 would smoke you.

The very early C5 Z06's were 385hp.... then went to 405. That being said, it is quite common to add Z06 rear fenders (w/ducts) to a standard c5 (330hp).... the guy could have been a poser. But, I don't see a even mildly tuned Lightning having a problem with a early Z.

i've outrun several c5 z06's....

and correct me if i'm wrong but 65 is second gear in the vette and he's not in the sweetspot... that's a good place for a jump in the truck...

if it were 80 to 120 tho... i think it would have been different...

The early Z06's claimed 0 to 60 mph 4.0 sec (mfg)and 1/4 mile (E.T.) 12.6 sec (mfg)

just sayin' i've outrun several of them here...

maybe all the drivers suck around here...

my buddy's c6 runs 8.000 at the track on street tires... having a helluva time runnin door to door on the dr's:mad:

I agree... they have WAY more gear than a L... obviously.

I know that the ones I have driven (not counting the S/C Z06) they would have no problem walking all over my truck. OR at least it seems that way.

Yeah im thinking i should have got smoked too! But keep in mind... this was a roll, I honked, i likely jumped a hair, but STILL... i assumed he would be walking around my ass... I was NOT pulling this guy, but he did not come around me....

And yeah it could have been a poser, but if it was he had all the right appointments to make it look the part...

I wish he would have run again, but he wouldnt line up again... (This kind of makes me think he gave me all he had).... :dontknow:

Agreed, I too have driven both 385, and 405hp versions... I think i have to chalk this one up to him not being in the gear he wanted to start out in. Just curious what kind of other Vette experience is out there...

The 405hp versions are pretty quick. I am actually looking a buying one.
I looked at a 03 Z06 with a Procharger and longtubes. Not sure what else it had. It was awesome. I even put a deposit on it. Then I found out it was in a front end collision. Tried to get the dealer to come down in price. Made another offer... never heard back from him :dontknow:
After looking at the Z06's, I won't even look at a "base" model vette. :D

Oh and this is in the 10 guys... not a Lightning. I dont have an L anymore...

Yeah I love the Z06s... Ive had two LS based 4th gen F-Bodies... the last one being a Texas Speed Built 370, backed by a Manual 4L80... LS shit is NO joke when done right... I am no stranger to LS cars thats why this one troubles me haha

Maybe he just wanted you out front to get caught by the cops :dontknow:

even the c6 ls2 cars are 0-60 in 4.3 so they say and they're faster than the c5 z06's i believe...

what's funny, tho...is i played a little cat and mouse with a newer c6 430hp in the mountains the other day... he couldn't shake me...at all;) but i think he was scared...he was early braking like hell...and i had nowhere to pass to return the favor:mad:

As was posted, 65mph... he was likely in 3rd gear... that is definitely _not_ the sweet spot from a roll in a C5 Z06. That certainly helped, no doubt.

Good run... I"m sure you surprised him!!

From a rolling punch, street start... say 20-30mph... you'd have no shot.

With a K&N air filter, my '02 Z06 ran 12.36 @ 116mph on stock tires, with a 1.98 60' time, 1100 miles on the odometer.

I have personally beat 2 C5 Z06's at Famoso drag strip...heads up and by several truck lengths, and I was still close to full weight.
