Well its day 3 in cabo on my employers dime and today was fishing day. Six people on the boat two wives that came along for the sights so four of us fishing. The day started out slow and then about 10am we started seeing marlin all over the place. Not the kind of fishing I have ever done before, four baits out and then they cast a live bait in front of the marlin. We had one big pig behind the boat that wouldnt take the bait and kept playing with us. I ended up catching two and getting them to the boat. One was about 225 and the deckhand cut the line when we got him up to the boat. The other was about 140 or so and they pulled that one up to get pictures. It decided not to play after we got the hook out and slipped back in before the pics. One the way back in we saw about 10 dolphins chasing fish and we went right through them. Had 4 baits out and got 4 fish at the same time, two amberjack and two skipjack. I had one amberjack on and fought for about 30 minutes got it to the boat and the hook came out. Ill get some pics loaded when I get home for the fishing people. I know Ill be back down here to fish soon.

doesn't get any better than that......

caught my first marlin in Cabo....got it on the boat and the Captain asked me if it was ok if we didn't release this one...the deck hand and his family would take and sell the meat....

so I agreed and they handed me a 2 foot club to brain the fish.....peer pressure and all I beat the poor thing to death while loudly repeating Joe Pesci lines from "Goodfellas"...."How am I funny"..."Am I funny now"....etc

the beautiful fish turned a grey color as it died....well have done a lot of marlin fishing after that and always release them....they are just too damn beautiful...

you did the right thing....imo....  ...now those Jack...little lime and some butter....yum....

Congrats man, I gotta get down there one of these days.

Like Nowwhat said, release the billfish! Give the deckhands some of the dolphin and amberjack.

Joe

Sounds like you guys had a blast!!

I love fishing.....

50lb blue anyone?! Yes, it was a long day and those who fish know you never look the same after a 10 hour day of fishing LOL....

Been to Cabo twice....a fisherman's paradise for sure...I only caught Yellow Tail tuna no bill fish....But my Mom caught one that weighed 250 lbs.....:D

I have to admit it is nice here and when its paid for its even better. Just got back from eating at the office and a trip to cabo wabo. I got the OK to book a trip tomorrow from the wife so Im going to see if I can do it on a short notice. The captain today told me that the normal price was $1400 per day for up to 6 people. I may do it by myself If I cant get anyone else to go. Its one of those things that I could care less if I didnt have anyone else with me. We didnt keep any of the fish and the boat crew was good about getting everything back in the water fast. They didnt even try to get the lure out the of the larger fish they just cut it at the leader. It wasnt really that big of a marlin Im guessing at 220. I will take my camera this time so I dont have to wait for the other people to send me pictures. I did get a picture of a dolphin trying to stick its tongue in my ear.

Totally with Nowwhat on this...catch and release also advocate use of circle hooks in all fishing these days. I could go on and on...no long lines, stop swordfish fishing now and don't buy any, etc.

But Cabo is wonderful...if you get time and it is the right time of the years get in some whale watching, amazing!

cool stories, we fished venezuela7 or 8 years ago, 14 miles offshore and your in the think of it, we fished for a whole week with light tackle and everyone grand slammed. we used to tournament fish with my dad for several years, always fished baypoint tournament in panama city,fl as a family affair. ill find some pics and post them up too. fun times...

I promised some pics and finally got them from the person that was in charge of the camera that day. Oh and we got so swin with a whale shark on the snorkel trip. The pictures I have suck, a person on the boat had a polarized lens and said he will send better pics. Check out the game warden.
