Just thought that I would get a general poll going to see what people think of CAI's on these beast. I had the Fram Boost2 on the 5.7hemi, but not real sure that there is a real performance gain from the drop-in's versus the CAI. Any suggestions??

Should have done a search. ;)

Oh well, here we go again.;) :D

Most will say that HP gain is minimal, or you actually lose power with the CAI. Go with a drop in.

There has been alot of discussion about this. A K&N drop-in is probably the best bang for the buck performance wise, but if you want a killer sound to go with it go for the CAI. I have the Volant and love it. I would buy it again for the sound alone. Really couldn't tell much difference in performance though.

We might as well make a sticky under forum rules about CAIs.

I've got a brand new K&N drop-in for $40 shipped if you want it.

I've spent a lot of money on a lot of mods in the past on other vehicles. Prior to starting down that path yet again with my SRT10 I read a lot of what's posted on this forum so I could minimize waste. As per typical recommendation on this site I did the K&N drop-in. When I get enough miles on it that it's time to clean or replace the K&N, I'm going with the JMB. I expect I won't be able to justify it on performance, especially dyno results. I like it as an appearance upgrade and for the sound and am willing to spend the bucks just for that. At the same time I'll index my plugs per another thread, and assume or at least am hopeful dyno gains there will offset potential dyno losses from the CAI. One of the things that's pushed me to make the decision for a CAI is Dan's comments (DC Performance on another thread) of negligible gains or losses on the dyno from a CAI but potentially a 2tenth improvement in the quarter. So far Dan's been right on the mark with his comments, and I'm not as interested in peak dyno HP as I am in usable HP at the track. Yeah, I know they're closely linked.

Regardless of anyone's decision about whether to or not to CAI, how can you go wrong with an SRT10 as a starting point? A potential plus or minus 5 horsepower as indicated on dynos that don't repeat at that accuracy level and vary manufacturer to manufacturer is splitting hairs finer than I'm interested in, especially on a truck starting with 500 horsepower. Plus or minus 5 horsepower is a 1% variable. Too many other factors affect the outcome more than that.

Of course I'm just an:

for me, I'm not totally into with losing any hp from CAI, at first I want to get cai until everyone in here warning me about losing hp so I decided to go for kn drop in and it really help a lot, it keep hp same and a little hp gain but I think its good idea since I'm thinking to get S/C so if I am going get cai it would be waste of $....ya know?

I have the MOPAR CAI and from what I can remember when I first got it...it definately kicked me back into my seat. Now that I'm used to it, I can't tell.

Whether or not it is perceived or actual, well, for 700 bucks it better be actual!!:D:D:D

On the DYNO it might not be very accurate due to the lack of airflow but I bet it makes a difference on the strip....I cannot attest to this as I havent had a chance yet. But the sucker sounds and looks bad azz!!!!:D

That's all that is really important Kris.

Thanx Roy!

Gary saw me koming....;) :p :p :p

The only problem I have with mine is putting the plastic intake "thingy" on my hood using pop rivets. Just kan't bring myself to drill holes into the hood.

But you gotta admit....it does look nice! (If you dont have a ROE SC on your engine)

Well from one "Oldguy";) to another, the results of a dyno and the performance on the track are not as closely linked as you might imagine.

There are many people out there that do a mod, run to the dyno and are all happy because they gained X number of HP. Then they go to the track and damned if they are not slower, and they are scratching their heads wondering why.

The answer is very simple. If the mod moved the HP/Torque curve way to the right (higher rpms) and you actually lost power down lower in the rpm band where the rpms drop to when you shift, you may be slower.

Make sense?:dontknow:

Thanks guys, I think that I will spend the little bit on the drop in, and save the other money for visual mods!!

IMO screw the visual mods,,,,the truck already looks bad ass,,,,, I want to faster, real fast

Yep, I know. I put in my comment just to head of a fragmented thread of "how could we reduce peak horsepower but expect gains at the track?"
