Hey, i got two days off to do my brake system... tommorow i'm getting the
rotors turned and i'm gonna change the pads here shortly... i ordered some
caliper paint and want to take all four calipers off to paint them... well
i went to take them off and i thought i could pinch the brake line where it's
rubber to stop the fluid from draining out the plug where it connects into
the caliper.. that rubber is very hard and i don't want to pinch something
that might not comeback into it's orginal form..:dontknow: so how do you suggest i take
the calipers off my truck completely and not have brake fluid draining out of
the system? :dontknow:

Do not try to pinch the brake line. When the brakes are applied they are under extreme pressure. You do not want to damage the line in any way. I'm not sure you can stop the fluid flow since the reservoir is above the calipers. You could try to find a cap to screw on once you remove it from the caliper. Is there any way to paint them while still on the truck?

I have heard stories where a line gets damaged and the inner part collapses causing the caliper not to release. Not good.

i suppose there is but i wanted a real clean job...

It's probably going to be a messy job. Yuk! Good luck.

couple things here, one is do them on the truck

two, you can turn the rubber part upwards, and shove rolled up towel into the end to "slow'' the leaking, the higher the end of the hose the better.

Or you can take some needle nose vise grips, put some rubber hose on the ends, and clamp the line loosely, and do only one at a time to shortn the period of clamping. But just clamp it just enough to stop the leaking

but also dont forget a drip pan:D

Just take them off and flush the system with new fluid when you put them back on.

i would but i'm not getting my brake bleeder kit from griots till after 5/30..
damn backorder... i dono i'm gonna take them off and have a look see
i'll get back to this in a sec..

back.... it seems all to simple to me.. just find something to put in place
of that bolt that fits snug with the hole and it won't leak.. :dontknow:

has anyone removed there calipers entirely from there truck?

Alright, hell with this... here's my plan.. wait until next monday to come
around... by that time i should have my brake bleeder from griots... after
i get the bleeder i'm gonna take all the calipers off completely and let all
the fluid drain out.. then tuesday i will put the calipers back on and
run some new fluid through the system.. i just had them pads and paint sittin
around and am getting real anxious to put them on...

Note to self: when bleeding brakes make sure to bleed both sides of the
caliper.. if you don't then the truck won't stop properly.

Hell, let it drip on the floor and make the woman clean it up.

If that works let me know just how you pulled it off, please.

Hhahha, the best part about living in the country is you don't have to worry
about where the fluids go :D :rock: when i was messing with the
antifreeze i let the stuff land on some weeds... needless to say the weeds
are not with us anymore :D:D:D:rock::rock:

The best way to bleed your brakes is with Earl's Solo-bleed bleeder screws. Check this out. I setup four milk jugs (can also use soda bottles) hanging near each caliper with tubing from the bleed screws going into each jug. Then it is just a matter of making sure the reservoir is full on the master cylinder and pumping the brakes. I did one corner at a time. I can provide you with the correct part number if you are interested (I am at work).

An easy way to plug the hole in the caliper after you take it off is to cut about 1/2 inch of 3/8 rubber fuel line. Make sure the cut is as square as possible. Then reinstall the banjo bolt with the 1/2" piece of 3/8 rubber fuel line as the gasket. Leave off the copper washers. Replace them with new when you are ready to reassemble.

Thanks for the info guys  the reason i haven't done this yet is because
my brake bleeder from griots is not here yet.... here's a link to what i bought
a little over a month ago..... and the date just got pushed back again.... i
just sent an email to the sales people!! i'm pissed!! anyways when i get this
bleeder it's pretty simple.. put the nipple on the bleeder and let the pump
do the rest :D but i will do a big write up here shortly :D

take it to a viper tec and pay him to do it right. no mess. no hassle. no problems.
