Well got my Caltracs in today, going over the instructions and will install tomorrow. Thanks Gary for all the help and the quick shipping

Anyones advice/tips on the install will be appreciated. Things to look out for, easier ways to do it, etc.

Thanks guys

Forgot bout that lol, how the fuk do I press the bushings out without a press? I figure I'll seranade it and whisper sweet nothings into her ears and she'll "pop" right out.

Or go postal with a sledge and a pipe?

WILDMAN

Make sure the new spring center bolts will fit into the hole. I had to ream mine out to get them to fit. 20 ton press got my bushings out. I put the new bushings in the freezer the nigfht before and they slid in real easy. Hope this helps alittle.

i used a torch on mine lit them up and let the rubber burn out then tapped them out. put the new billet bushings in the freezer before i started then as soon as i got the old bushing out i tapped the new one in worked like a charm and didnt have to beat the shit out of it.

Friend of mine has a press, so tonight I will be putting the truck up on jacks. Then drop the rear end out, put that up on jacks. Take off the leaf springs, then tomorrow morning I'll take the leaf springs to his house and he'll press the old bushings out and the new ones in. Then bring them home, slap everything together, adjust, and violla (SP?). All that's left after that is wash the truck, drive 2 hours to the Labor Day drags, and hope for some traction, simple lol (knock on wood).

Ok so if I put the new bushings in the freezer overnight, will the inside diameter shrink too?

Is the bushings set supposed to come with washers? Mine didn't.

I looked in the instrctions and it showed washers for the bushings set, took some measurements and it looks like theres no room for any washers anyway.

So if I want to take the easy way out and torch the rubbers, do the new bushings need rubbers? Or do they just go right in the eye of the leaf spring by itself? Hows the fit?

Looks like I got my work cut out for me tonight.......

do the spacers for the u bolts go on top of the leaf spring or on the bottom?

it looks like it suppost to go on top but i just wanted to make sure.

thanks guys

first of all, you shouldn't have to remove the rearend, the leaf springs go under them (on an RC)........

all the parts that came with mine are in the pics below (half way down the page):
http://www.vtcoa.com/forums/showthread.php?t=13987&page=2&highlight=caltracs

all i was missing was the shorter replacement bolt that goes thru the center of the leaf spring......
i don't think it's easier to torch the rubber bushings out.... if you soak them in a lube, they are easier to press out.....

good luck.

Ok I installed the caltracs but now when I go over bumps on the road theres a metal banging noise, I'm not sure what this is. I didn't use the leaf spring spacer and new center bolt, is this a must? I just used the stock bracket on top of the leaf spring, put the u bolts through it, attached the lower bracket for the caltracs and everything fit perfect. This set-up looks way stronger than just a u bolt spacer on top of the leaf springs.

Any one got some advice?

I figure the banging noise is when I go over a bump the leaf spring flexes, then when it flexes back it's banging the bolt stop for the leaf spring on the front pivot point. Should tightening it more take away the problem?

How much turns past touching doesnt it take on the quad qabs? Maybe I'll go 1 1/4. Be right back.

There shouldnt be any noise going over bumps if you have them pre-loaded.

I would double check the u-bolts, leaf spring bolt and preload settings.

How much turns past touching is everyone going? I'm going 1 and a half and theres still clanking. Going to double check all the bolts.
