Ok Knowitalls....help out here por favor.

As we all know my shit blew up again....
My alternatives are to let the shop that is responsible go find a block and rebuild etc....
OR
I have a block that I was selling to Gary (Boomer). I got it off of ebay and it was in BAD shape...the cam was welded to the block from being run hot and/or without oil...So Gary shipped it out to proline and they were going to machine it...Basically it is getting line bored to accept cam bearings so that it saves the block and I suppose there is a sustained benefit with having cam bearings especially in high horsepower applications.

Well, if I donate this block to the shop its close to the same money as if they go buy a shortblock somewhere....I guess my question is: "Do this and lose the money i paid for this block but benefit by having the extra insurance of cam bearings. Or, let them handle it and maybe recoup a grand or so after this nightmare unfolds with the ebay block?

I didn't know our engines don't have cam bearings, I thought all engines had them.

Bill.

It all come's down to how much do you respect/trust the current shop doing the work. If the shop is being responsible and flipping the bill for the motor damage without giving you shit, I say they deserve some careful consideration.

On the other side(Sucking up to Boomer, he currently has my baby in his possesion :D :p ) Gary as far as I am concern cannot be matched in dealing with other shops short coming/Mess ups. Most shops will not to touch a vehicle they haven't engineered.

Believe it or not, most engineers suck at troubleshooting. As most troubleshooters suck at engineering. Gary can do both hence the reason my truck and money is with him.

i am also thinking that time may be a factor. Using the block aquired off of ebay would probably speed up the rebuild time where having them source out a new block could take an unknown amount of time...

At this point, i am doubting money is as much of a factor...

Good thing I didn't tell you I wanted that block huh Blake? No worries though, I'm holding off for now.

Sorry to hear about the motor, for what its worth the mustang shop where I dyno my truck uses Proline for their engines and highly reccomends them. I would trust them to fix the block that you have there now.

As of now it looks like that is the direction we r going. They have found mutiple blocks...but that one is a better scenario I think (and Boomer)....well see...ive got the itch too bad....Im gonna go buy another bike i think.....

I would use your block thats set up with cam bearings. Your in a tough spot were damned if you do, damned if you dont. Might as well go the extra mile ;)

I thought all they did was to spin the rod bearings on the #2 and 3 journals and ruin those rods. Now they need a new block? Can they explain what the hell happened and why it won't happen the next time they build you an engine? I wouldn't have a warm feeling unless they could tell me what went wrong.

bearings went in backwards.....

How do you put bearings in backwards?:dontknow: They have a lock on the end of each don't they?

Sure do. I would be worried about them doing another engine.

Just happened to think of something. I have not had the pleasure of seeing one of these engines apart. Do they have oil grooves in the bearings? Are they in both halves of the bearings?

if the bearing goes in backward doesn't that simply keep the oil from flowing...?

Not necessarilly. The oil for the rod is coming from the crankshaft journal. Now if they installed the main bearing in wrong, where the oil gallery hole in the block was covered it would prevent the oil from getting to the crank and therefore to the rod.

As I stated, I have not seen one of these engines disassembled. I don't know if the rods have an oil gallery in them that lubricated the wrist pins or not. If they do, and the rod bearing was blocking the wrist pin gallery it would result in no oil to the wrist pin.

Any of this making any sense?

If not, let me know and I will do a better job of explaining it. I will also try to find pictures that would help out.

THE MAIN bearings were installed wrong....the upper bearings were in the lower bearings positions and vice versa....this completely prevented the crank from getting oil....hence the oil starvation....ITS a MIRACLE they got 100 miles on the thing......it shoulda blown up sooner!

The track temps will be nice in January.........

Mike, just adding fuel to the fire.... :)

Trying not to smile but I can't help it, sorry blake...

I am absolutely amazed also that they got a 100 miles out of it... I take it that the bearing aren't notched???

I DONT KNOW...I would think that they would make that really hard to do...BUT, with the engine on a stand its upside down so I guess you could get cornfused if u werent the only guy flipping it over and working on it. I think the main tech walked away and the helper did it....so the story goes.....who knows. Next one is on them...if they FUBAR it...I chargeback my CC and go to Boomer.....this is BS. But Ill give em another chance. IM STOOOOPID!
