Well I am finally about to do the install on my camshaft and hardened pushrods. The person that is going to do it for me said it would be 6 to 8 weeks before he could do it.:( So what I would like to know is could I do it myself?:dontknow: I have worked on chevy small blocks and have a cousin thats done alot more than me that is willing to help.
Is there any of you guys that have a service manual that could fax or email the information on the cam install. It may be better for me to just purchase one myself. I have a huge shop and plenty of tools! I have done everything so far except the gear swap. I can wait for 6 to 8 weeks if it is a bigger deal than what I am thinking. I would just like it done asap you guys should know what I mean! I would just like some suggestions or ideas from some of you..;)

i was thinking the same thing but and scared to pull the trigger. i got a cam sitting by my desk, waiting to get installed

Charles, did you install your camshaft or at least have a hand in it? What gasket kit do I need to get?

I ran out of time and had my local shop do it. I have swapped cams in other vehicles but with the new boy and the daily driver never had time ;)

Anyway, I picked up the engine gasket kit from my local dealer..It should run you around $270 for the complete kit. Now you may be able to get by for less if you dont pull the heads.

I was there for a portion of the install and tuned it myself post install. So was able to see what the trouble areas were :D

I don't think I am going to pull the heads. I was going to get set of factory heads off a member and send them to indy to have them ported and polished. By the time it would have been said and done It would cost me around 4k and I don't really have that sitting around to spend on the truck! So I will just use factory heads and lifters. So doing that which gaskets do I need to get? Thanks for your help!!

Believe you can get by with just a timing chain cover gasket. You still need to pull the valve covers but they use a rubber gasket.

The rest is fluids, torque wrench and degree wheel.

What does it cost to have someone do the complete cam install?(Approxmately)

$900-$1300 depending on their expertise with a Viper engine. Its at least a 12hr job.

Doesnt include parts, dyno or tuning.
