Anyone know of any decent camera surveillance packages? I'd say maximum cost $2,000, I want to place a camera on my balcony facing the spot where I park my cars. Ease of installation is important, I live in an apartment complex so I can't start pulling wires and not through their walls. There is a power outlet on my balcony, something that I could plug into that with wireless transmission would be ideal. Suggestions?

We do quite a bit in surveillance electronics. The best deal for you would be to buy an outdoor-rated camera with integrated 802.11B (or higher) wireless networking, and connect a wireless router to your internet connection (if you don't already have one). Once installed, you need only to load the remote viewing/recording software on one of your computers.

Obviously having broadband will be helpful if the computer you want to view/record with is somewhere besides your home. For example, you might want to be able to log into the camera from work. The frame rate (how fast the picture updates) will be significantly better through broadband connections.

Hope this helps.

Sams Club or BJ's wholesale.. I got mine for $800 (8 color outdoor camera's and & 1 color monitor). I also picked up a digital recorder with hardrive for $500. 2-way communication.. yes, you can talk & listen through the monitor. I even have it hooked up to another TV in my bedroom. I've had it 6 months now and no problems so far. -A must nowadays..

On top of the Camera......have you thought about motion lights....they are cheap....and they really work....

Have the Sickness install it for you!!

Any specific cameras you recommend Ram From Hell? I think I will go with this set up. I need 2 cameras at least. I'd rather buy quality than think price. What software do you recommend for recording? I have a computer here with 4 250gb HDs that I could use solely for storing the data.

I think I may go with the above mentioning camera and hook it up to a wireless access point. Should work fine, no?

That should work. I have had a few issues with other networked A/V components not wanting to work through wireless points though. If I can eliminate a potential problem by finding something that has what I need already integrated into it, I'm apt to spend a few more bucks to get it.;)

PM BigBlackQC. He purchased one from BJ's or Cosco and has been very satisfied...

It's so nice to have experts as members! I love this site!

I have 22 samsung cameras with a Dedicated Micros DVR 320 GIG HD. Holds aboout 1 1/2 months of footage on hi resolution. Internet connection is awesome....view from anywhere

I'll go ahead and order one, if it doesn't work it's only $250 and I'll try something else.

Dont waste your time on a wireless one...they suck.

There are applications where these make sense. The Sony wireless cam should work fine for his app.

I don't think Sprite is looking for a permanent install like you have (that is good gear you have, BTW). If he were building new, or needed to retrofit some wiring for permanent cam locations, the hard-wired cams are naturally the best choice.

Im sure Sony makes a good one, I had a couple and they always had static.....I dunno what caused it but I had to replace them. My system was BIG $$...I have it wired into my security system with the expensive remote deal that has a little screen on it so u can watch the cameras from the hand held unit....its cool

I got a LAN one and I will try to run it through a wireless access point, if that doesn't work I can just run the lan wires temporarily as it is a temp solution anyways.
