My wife has a 2005 mercury mountaineer that I was just told by the dealer, it needs a new tranny. They said they found metal particals in the oil and that the transmission is shot. They want $3200 to replace it. Im hoping that a vendor/member here can chime in and give me some suggestions on what to do. I still dont have my truck back and its breaking my bank with the rebuild so if anyone knows of a cheap way out it would be helpful.

im gonna call some local junk yards today also
That's what I was going to suggest. But it sounds better if you call them Auto Salvage or Auto Recyclers. And the guys who remove the parts are known as Salvage Engineers or Recycler technicians. You don't want to accidentally insult them.;)

thanks. I am going to call the yards tomorrow. I found a few in the $1100 range, but want to find cheaper. Also when I do find one, can the old one just be unbolted and the new one put in pretty easily?

have ya tried a "tune up". fresh juice, filter & any Adjustments that might be needed????
