I had a 10" sub in my truck before, whenever I would turn the subwoofer up on my head unit it would sound like the sub was bottoming out. I recently got a 15" woofer and built a box for it and it does the same thing, sounds good but I can't turn it up all the way because it starts to distort. Any ideas what could be causing this? Thanks fellas

Have you checked the gains on the amp? What amp
are you using and what's sending signal to the amp RCA?

We would be glad to help but need lots of information to solve.

The above questions plus.............Type/kind of sub.......power wire size......a 15" in a reg cab????

Let us help by answering a few questions.

It's a 15" MMAT, and I built a sealed box to fit behind the middle seat. I know it's not enough air space for the sub, but even with my 10 I had it had the same problem. I have a 1000 watt Sony amp on it now.

MMATT Awesome subs............Sony Amp.........not awesome

What I mean is that your sub is not getting the power it needs. Now if you have a 1000 Watt Sony amplifier then its actual wattage is probably 250-400 Watts or real world power (or RMS)

You have to match or exceed the RMS wattage of your sub with your amp.

This is your FIRST problem.

Second. Did you know that the box (and its size) is more important than the sub in the box??? Its true. SPL competitions aren't won with the most expensive subs. They are won with the best boxes (and designs of them)

Make that box (if it is really a 15" WOW) out of 1" MDF and make it the right size!!!!

Hope this helps. The above info is not to "dog" on you but to help you. Got any questions give me a shout on PM.

You said it.
over powering a speaker(10") and and to small of an enclosure(15") can create the "bottoming out sound". How big is the enclosure? There is over 4' foot of usabel air space behind the seats in a reg cab, My 4 12s liked it so i am sure you can get 1 15 to work back there.;)

I'm going to get a box built this weekend to try to fit 2 15's behind the seats. The 10" was only getting 300 watts when I had it in there.

um.......I think I am missing something.....2 15's???

Make the right box for one and you will be all set.

Here is MMATTS enclosure specifications------>HERE

Exactly which MMATTS sub do you have???
Are you making a shallow box or deep tall box???
What model Sony amplifier do you have? Class D? A or B?

Mmatts are amazing subs. I knew a guy who had 4 10's in his old chevelle and blew the window out of the back.
1 15" in the right box is going to rattle the sh*t out of your truck!! People will hear you coming from 10 blocks away....lol
