I know CARFAX can be wrong or inaccurate, as they rely on data received from many sources, outside or not affiliated with CARFAX. But this one has me confused and dumbfounded. This morning I ran a CARFAX report on my truck. Nine records popped up. The highlights:
Dec 4, 2006, Dealer inventory (source), vehicle offered for sale, reported mileage 15. I surmise this record is correct.
Jan 21, 2008: VA DMV (source) vehicle purchase reported, registered as personal vehicle. 1st owner reported. This record is incorrect with the exception of the date and the fact I purchased the vehicle on Jan 21. On Jan 21, I purchased it in Indiana and held a 30 day temporary registration for the state of IN, not VA. No mention of that :dontknow:
Jan 18, 2008 and Jan 21, 2008, records reported that the vehicle was in dealer inventory (source) and offered for sale. Jan 18th aside, how can the vehicle be offered for sale on Jan 21 if I purchased the vehicle on Jan 21 and the vehicle was in MY possession, not the dealers, on Jan 21?:dontknow:
Feb 18, 2008 vehicle emissions testing was completed. This record is correct -- this is when I had my truck tested so that it could be registered in VA. Thanks CARFAX. You got one right. :congrats:
Feb 19, 2008 VA DMV (source) -- record reports that dealer took title of the vehicle while it was in inventory. Title or registration issued. This record is somewhat correct. Feb 19 was the day I visited VA DMV to have the IN registration transferred to VA. My question is how can a dealer take title of the vehicle while it was in THEIR inventory, after I purchased it and it was in MY possession as of Jan 21? :dontknow:
Feb 18, 2008, Feb 25, 2008 and Mar 17, 2008, records reported that the vehicle was in dealer inventory (source) and offered for sale. Now, how can that be if I purchased the vehicle on Jan 21, 2008 and the vehicle was in my possession, not the dealers, as of Jan 21?:dontknow:
Summarized: so far my truck has been purchased, registered twice in VA and offered for sale FOUR, count 'em, FOUR times since I purchased it on Jan 21, 2008. I guess I'm lucky it didn't sell. I would've been a little pi$$ed off if it did. Friggin CARFAX is utterly worthless.
