What are my options with a stock exhaust in terms of a cat delete? Is it possible to have custom straight pipes bent and made in place of where the cats are? Biggest question: Will it throw a code? And if so, how do I get the check engine light to turn off once it's thrown a code?

Just wanna know my options here. When I was younger I always used to get the cats hacked off on every one of my vehicles. Made em' louder and gave em' a little more power! Just wondering if this truck..with all the computer shit I know nothing about..will react the same way.

Also, if any of you other guys have hacked off your cats, how much of a difference did you notice? Thanks.

Both Boomer (Xmetal) and JMBJustin (JMB) as well as others make catless mids for our trucks. I believe they come with O2 sims for the rear sensors to keep from throwing a code.

There are four sensors, two before the cats and two after.

When my cats were deleted, we left the front sensors and strapped the rear sensors to the frame.

It does not throw codes.

If you have a code come up, reboot the pcm. This is done by disconnecting the negative lead to the battery (10mm). Leave it off for a few minutes and when the connection is replaced the pcm will boot without the code. But if it sensed a problem before the boot, and the problem still exists it will throw the code again...but in the manner I described, I did not have the problem.

There are other solutions but I think mine was the simplest.

In Illinois pollution checks are just a check to see if a code exists...so I should pass emissions checks...I think, I hope...but if necessary I can add two full flow cats...

According to Ted may (viper tech) if you delete the rear cats it wont throw a code. He also suggested 2.5 inch piping mandrel bent along with high flows in the front.

you have a few options:
you could install a flashed pcm & install a set of catless mids....seems to me that if you have a flashed pcm & you put enough miles between the times when you have the battery disconnected & deq only plugs in -- then you should pass....... personally, i think this to be too risky for me....
that's why with my complete b&b exhaust, i ordered both sets of mids & had them flanged for ease of swap out for emission testing....... you never know when they might get a hair & sniff test or do a visual.......

sounds good too:

another option if you decide to go catless mids & not with a flashed pcm, you will need sims (either mechanical or electrical) for the 2 rear o2 sensors....... electrical are more expensive (see roe site) & mechanical ones (which i'm doing on my b&b complete exhaust) can be done cheaper yet if you do it yourself..... see the 2 attached links :

Should I disconnect the negative lead before taking the cats off? I also want to take all 4 cats out. Will this be possible?

As far as emission testing goes, I live in a county that doesn't require it at this time. A few counties in PA are quite backwards. Mine is one of them, lol. Also the guy who does my inspections is way cool...if u know what I mean.

Also, how does it sound and is the difference in throttle response / power noticeable? Thanks.

Do the cat delete and if the code shows up...then reboot the pcm...if your truck throws the code, then you will probably have to go to one of the other solutions...but with the rear sensors in the clear air they should not induce a code.
