Tony
I have gotten TWO of these in the last 2 weeks. I sent info to Paypal after the first one, just got a response . They will never send e-mail asking for account information.

So thanks for beating me to it and alerting everyone. Wasn't quite sure until I got thier response today.

Ya did good Stink ......

But Christmas and the holidays are comming guys:rock:

and a ton of us will be buying over the internet, and I figured everyone could share there do's and dont's of paypal problems and suggestions.

Paypal is pretty much safe and reliable and free to sign up.......but

UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES MUST YOU EVER REPLY TO AN EMAIL STATING THEY NEED YOU INFORMATION UPDATED!

Paypal will never send you an email like this, many have been taken for thousands of dollars with this kind of email, and with christmas comming, the email will start to appear again.

Also always try to deal with someone that is "verfied", that means they have been approved by paypal.

Thanks, and hopefully others can also chime in with more suggestions

.
thanks "T", def dont wanna see someone have a bad holiday:)

Few years ago when i ran a little online paintball store i would get about 1 of those fake emails a month.
Paypal hardly ever sends emails out about account compromises and if you really did get hacked by someone you would notice in your account. I always check my account when i get one just to be sure, if all looks good i always report the email to paypal.
On my gmail account all these fake emails are put into my spam box now, seems gmail knows about it and puts them in there.
Main thing to looks out for is any email asking for personal info and a password to your account.

Just make sure to use your Credit Card for purchases.
Do Not use your bank account or Pay Pal balance (these funds should be transfered to your Bank when you receive them) because Pay Pal does not help much at all but your Credit Card Co. will. I have made at least 10 claims through Pay Pal with no luck , but the Credit Card Company Refunded 100% of the funds every time:D
I have nearly 1000 positive feedbacks on eBay over a 5 year period.

Really good idea is to have Fraud and Identity Theft Insurance then you will be safe no matter what, and one phone call gets it all done.

One thing about Paypal, if they send you a message, they always use your name in the message.

Also, if you get one of those Phishing E-Mails, forward it to [email protected], then delete it, but always forward the message to them. They hunt them down and prosecute them.

along the same lines, only use a credit card on paypal because i've heard that paypal has screwed up a few personal bank accounts too...... :(

i think this thread contains some excellent information that all the members should listen to:rock:

Maybe we can get RedSRT007 to make it a sticky inthe general section:rock:

I got an email saying that my account had been suspended and that I needed to contact them to get the account reinstated...I just deleted it.

All kinds of scams out there. Be careful friends.

My problem with paypal isnt the scamming but that its a serious PITA for sellers. I sold a complete 2006 QC SRT10 interior for $2800 a couple of months ago. Well the dash got scuffed/damaged in shipping. Was in no way my fault, but the buyer got all pissed, and started an arbitration process. Paypal imediately took the $2800 back out of my account until we resolved the claim. I actually had to refund the guy $600 before paypal would release the hold on the account. Now I have to go after the shipping company that damaged it to get my $600.

Just figured i would add this in as well, I always take a screen shot of anything I order and save it on my pc just encase something happens and I mite need it. I just hit prt screen and then open ms paint and paste it in there and then save it as a jpeg to my pc.

Up until today i have never had a use for any of these pictures and I honestly was going to stop doing it, but today i got in my new in dash dvd unit for the 10 and when i ordered it they had a special going to also get the $800 navigation system with it for free. My order came in and no navigation i called customer service and after sitting on hold for around 10 mins the lady came back and told me that they never had a offer like this.

So i told her i have a screen shot of my order after checkout showing it in the order for free, so i sent her the picture and they are fixing the issue now.

Sounds useless to do i know but it really is a good thing to have just encase someone try's to pull something like they did on me today.
