Through a code today p1494. I was getting a surging on cold start up (idle only) that went away when it warmed up.....I checked all hoses under hood only, checked the gas cap, all seems ok. I disconnected the battery to reset the dash light. The light is still off after driving about half an hour. I did a search on here and found a few threads and things to look for.

My questions are:

What is the purpose of the Leak Detection Pump system besides emissions control ? ( My area does not have emissions testing ).

What effect does it have on the engine ?

Can the leak detection pump system be by-passed , capped or removed without affecting/damaging the the way the truck runs ?

Will the light on the dash stay out ?

i pulled all my evap stuff off the gas tank, out from underneither the truck, out of the engine bay and my truck doesnt throw a check light but i also have a tuned PCM. I also left the small box that was on the huge evap tank plugged in just removed it from the box and zip tied it to the frame rail. I also heard someone else recently on the forum say they removed theres. Its striclly for emissions since these trucks were made 50 state carb legal you really dont need it if your not worried about smog

I pulled all my evap crap off my truck. All it does is adds weight and slows you down. And it looks ugly to boot.

Seriously, what it does is pulls a vacuum in the fuel tank and allows the gas vapors to enter the engine and be burnt. Emissions shit.

Thanks Rare03srt10 and yellowfever#154  , Thats what I was hoping to hear  . Not worried about smog in Florida ,,,The hurricanes will blow it all to Cali :D
Plus no emissions inspection here
So far it has not thrown the code again, But if it does I may just eliminate it also.

The only thing is when removing it completely you have to leave the one line that goes to the tank open to atmosphere. If you block it off you cannot fill the tank with gas, the air has to escape somewhere. Found this out the hard way.

Eliminating it will not stop the code from appearing, Im sure it will actually cause additional codes. Just wanted to clarify that so your not pissed at me when you take it off and are expecting the codes to be gone.
