Centerforce clutch/ Flywheel, Viper master/salve installed

Figure it would be better to start my own thread instead of stepping on someone elses ;)

Install went fairly smoothly...had my local garage where I tune my truck do the install. $300, cant complain.. Been too busy with work and my teething 4 month old to knock this out at home without a lift.

No smell but a little chatter on the first day of driving. The pedal is about 3-4 inches above the stock location. It also feels like it is dragging a little as you release the clutch pedal and then fully engaging at the top of the arc. Now I believe you can put a couple of washers behind the master to bring it down.

Although if you do, how does that impact the clutch engagment/release ? Wouldnt want to create a partial engagement scenerio and burn the clutch out.

The tech there said that a Mcleod adjustable master may work and allow you to tune position and engagement location...


Still working on breaking the clutch in and will work on the pedal location as time is available.

Will give an update later on ;)
 
the 500 mile break in period seems to take forever! best to go on a road trip[ or something! but once thats over you'll be smiling as you chirp thrid! did you notice the truck reving faster w/ the new fly wheel? I did.

Cool..another centerforce joins the club! :D

Shimming the master cylinder will not effect the throw on the hydraulics, all it will do is adjust the pedal location (so its not above / above the brake pedal for example). Now on the viper (car) hydraulics we shim the slave to adjust the hydraulics, but after speaking with KC @ Centerforce, he explained it very clearly on what that exactly does....

Sounds like everything is working well (besides it releasing 3" ABOVE the stock location...which is roughly in the middle), just make sure it is fully engaged and not dragging / slipping slightly.

I will be talking o KC today, and ill see if he has a few min to login and put in his expertise.... :idea:

you can shim out the master to get the pedal where you want it.
 
MMMMTorque - I really want to see if this combo for clutch works out for you!
I need to step it up also! Good Luck! I hope it was installed properly.

poppopmadman, it wont be long that you will be needing a new clutch running that laughing gas :D
 
Mine had the same issues.I cut some 1 1/8" round stock (aluminum) 1/2" thick and drilled a hole slightly bigger than 3/8" in the center to put mine back at the same location as stock.Works great now.You could just stack washers and get the same result.I am just picky and used the aluminum because I could polish them(even though you can't see them):D
I think the break-in should be more city driving with lots of engage/dis-engage action , rather than just 500 highway miles.Just my .02;)
 
Update.....

Shimmed my master today, pretty close to the stock setting. Wanted to ensure there was enough thread to hit the poly locks.

Clutch is feeling better, got about 250 miles of heavy traffic and city driving on it. Have hit the gas a bit once or twice after I got rolling but have taken it pretty easy during the break in so far.

It definitley grabs more than the stocker....Still have some chatter but its not as bad as the first week. Should have it broken in after another week and looking forward to putting it through some pwr shifts.

BTW, starting to like the Gen IV shifter even more. Its getting a little smoother with more use. I believe that no shifter could fix the crappy ass linkage in this T56 but the Gen IV has tamed it pretty good ;)

BTW, I'll be in the Hampton Roads area Wed till Mon this week. All the family is flying/driving in so we can all be together one last time. I wont have anytime to drive down to you so maybe next time we can hook up. Again thanks for the offer to drive your hot rod.

Sorry to hear that :( I am sure it will be a great trip.

I will be heading out to Maui in about a year, so will have have to meet up then :D
 
Update...feel like the clutch has seated nicely and pedal feel is consistant now. Firmer pedal than the stocker and grabs hard on a quick drop. Its a little harder to drive in heavy traffic but nothing that would keep it from being my daily driver. Enjoying the lowered pedal location as it is now close to stock.

Have about 350 city miles and couldnt help my self the other day when a Mercedes 430 got cute and tried to run me. Needless to say, even taking off like grandma and short shifting, walked him ;)

The truck is running like a raped ape in this cooler temp and this clutch is exactly what it needed. :D Actually had a 'holy shit' acceleration moment yesterday (first one in a long time) when I got on it and looking forward to seeing what she is putting down with the new clutch and cooler temps ;)

didn't you centerforce kit include a shim for the master cylinder ?
how thick did you have to go to level the pedals out ?

I soooo want to join the Centerforce club, but I'm reluctant to mess with something that is working just fine at the moment. Plus all this talk about a different feel and higher pedals makes me want to leave things as they are. :dontknow: I dunno, I will probably break down and just get 'er done soon...

No, mine didnt have the shims for the master cylinder. I just went down to Ace and picked up some washers. Believe I had to shim it about 1/2" ....You have to be careful not to shim it too far, otherwise you run out of thread.

With the addition of two minor items you will be at the apex of truck snorting concrete ripping modifications:

Water/methanol injection

Roe top mount twin screw

Its time...no sense waiting...go for it.
