Was working on the truck this weekend installing a strobe system and thought the truck would look much better without that nasty yellow side reflector in the head light. Easy mod to do, have done the same thing in previous cars so this was easy. Has this been posted before? If not I can write up a DIY with pics, will post pics shortly. Makes the truck much smoother in the front I think. Was also thinking about painting the chrome around the outside of the lights to match the white on the truck.....thoughts?

Yeah, how did you do it?! The yellow has to go....slows the truck down.

How to DYI clear corners

Its not terrible to do took about 45 mins total and made it look soooo much cooler!
First remove the lamps from the truck, 3 screws which are T25 I think? Might need to double check that. Two are located on the side of the lamp near the rat, the 3rd is located under the marker light, bottom side of the lamp. Once you have removed the lamp housing and bulbs(be sure to remove the head light bulbs and the marker bulbs) you'll need to seperate the lense and housing. Place the lamp in an oven and bake for about 5-7mins on a LOW TEMP, 180deg is what I use, after a few mins the "monkey snot" that seals it will become soft and plyable, carefully pull the black housing and the lense apart, you will need a flat head screw driver to lift the tabs, take your time with this! If the lense and housing do not begin to separate you might need to reheat. A good indicator of it reaching the correct temp is the "monkey snot" will be soft and plyable, the extra over hanging the housing will be squishy. You'll need to give it a good tug to break the seal but once it begins to seperate it will pull right apart. Now you'll need to remove the Chrome light bezel, you might want to wear white cloth gloves to reduce finger prints on the chrome or just remember to clean it before you reinstall it. The bezel snaps out of the lense easily. Once you have the chrome bezel removed you'll see the nasty yellow reflector, on the back side of the chrome bezel you'll see where they plastic welded the ends, IE melted them, carefully break the melted tabs off and the reflector will slide right out. Once you've removed it be sure to check the bezel for any remaining yellow plastic parts and clean the finger prints off the chrome then reinstall it back in the lense. You'll then need to place both the lense and the black housing back in the oven and bake again for a few mins 5-7 to heat up the "monkey snot" again, once it becomes plyable again snap the two parts back together, it will cool off and reseal the light. Reinstall it in your truck and volia....all done!
I can shoot a few pics tomorrow when I unload it from the trailer for everyone to check it out.

Thanks. I guess I will do some cooking.

If you need any help just shoot me a note. One note, when you remove the yellow reflector there will be four small slits in the chrome bezel where the mount tabs were, you can barely notice them, just wanted to make you aware of that.

I'm wondering that while youre at it you can paint the inside black, save yourself some money in getting blacked out headlights.

FYI, it only costs $115 for new blacked out JDM headlights.:dontknow:

I seen a few guys attempt that. looked good for a while till the moisture statrted creeping inside of the lens and turned it hazy and yellowish. I would just spend the 115 bucks and get it done right. Good idea though, hope it turns out well. Post some pics.

I paid $150 shipped for a new black set a few weeks back certainly easier than the easy bake oven method which still doesn't offer any type or replacement reflector. Just my opinion but why ghetto up a $50,000 + truck with a DIY clearing when their are alternatives readily available??? :dontknow:

I guess, I had to take the light assembly apart anyway to clean out the plastic shavings from drilling in the strobe holes so I thought while I was in there I'd clear it out. I don't know if I'd call it ghettoing, but hey whatever.
I thought about the Black ones, also a set somewhere with projectors and led signals, they looked good too. Like I said I was already in there and thought why not while I was there. And reheating the two will make sealant plyable so it shouldn't cause moisture to seap in.

2 each his own bro I wasn't tryin to make ya feel bad about it just curious...i hope I didn't offend you!!

Not at all, it takes alot more than that to get me offened. Just thought some of the guys on here might like to know how to do it. Its a very different crowd on this fourm. Most of us have a few extra dollars to spend on parts, the previous cars I've had/built, their forum members would complain about spending the $150 for the lights and rather do it themselves so I guess I'm used to that mentality and I'm always down to help out by spreading some knowledge. Althought I do have to say its much nicer to hear ppl say they'd rather spend money then DIY, just shows a differently level I guess. I do have to say this forum rocks!!!!

I'm up north of Balto, might have to check it out, I'm out touring right now. Currently in Denver, then off to Portland, Seattle, back to Omaha and finally stopping at Dodge Heq in Detroit before I get back home in MD about Aug 28th or so.....but after that I might be able to swing by before I leave again for FL and then back up to Ga for NOPI........
