Clutch discussion

Vipertruck:WTF 3RD AND 4TH GEAR! Jezuz, my truck has never done that, hardly even chirps 2nd. Somethings gotta be up with my truck. Had a new clutch installed a few thousand miles ago, dealer warranty. The truck isnt even stock. Boomers computer upgrade, and magnaflow. Maybe the pavement is really nice and clean here in FL? Or you guys are doin this on semi dirty roads/cold roads?

I burned mine early in its life. Bad enough I still had smoke coming out after the short launch. Normally I'd launch it in the 2000-2200 rpm range with a fairly quick release but tried higher rpm's with above results. It smelled for a day or so and while I don't baby it I try not to slip it anymore. So far stock clutch has gone another 25K miles since that incident but I can't chirp in 3rd anymore. Mine is still completely stock.

I have heard 3rd gear chirps on several videos but never 4th!!

I have the cat-delete,MagnaFlow,Boomer Stage 2,172* t-stat and I have never chirped third.Maybe I need a new clutch ?:dontknow:

No disrespect intended but have you read all of the input above in this thread? Almost all of us have said that the stock clutch (to include a duplicate from Dodge) is not the answer...get the Centerforce unit and add the Viper slave and master package and replace the flywheel with the Fidanza light weight...that has been the solution to dozens, if not hundreds of us....then have a ball, and start worrying about traction and rear tire replacement at frequent intervals.

Guys, Im talking about 2nd! Truck barely does it unless I pull off a perfect Rpm Shift. This isnt good nooooooooooo gooood.

Taking your rpms up to 5k then shifting you should be squeeling into second. At 5500 rpms going into second should be a downright tire spinning rubber mark leaving event. Unless you have the stickest roads in the country this should be the norm.

Your clutch could be worn down dude. My stocker would burn into second and sometimes chirp into third if I shifted really well and fast. (Many times at the track I fubared the shift into third) With the new setup......its downright gnarly going into second shifting at 5500!!! The power to the wheels is unreal!!! Whatta difference.

Get an appointment at Roe Racing...a couple of hours on the road...four hours looking at Amy while the crew add the Centerforce, Viper master and slave and the Fidanza flywheel, and then 500 miles of break-in driving, then burnouts unlimited! Oh yeah...about $2000 too.

Its an upgrade all RC guys will eventually make!!! Period!

Yeah, something must be wrong or your just shifting way too slow, Bro. :D

I have always been able to scratch 2nd 3rd and 4th gears on the stock clutch. :dontknow: I posted that before (on the other board) and some guys didn't believe me... Guess the proofs in the pudding now.

with the stock tires on running at the track i can hear the tires scratch 2nd, 3rd and 4th. On normal roads 2nd and 3rd but no 4th. No complaints with the centerforce/fidenza combo! I can launch at 4,000 RPM with slicks just dumping the clutch and the thing just jumps!

All you need now is to put the wing back on and you'll be set, LOL.

Damn this thred is getting me going, I get my truck back tomorrow (bought the Roe clutch package). Problem, I leave town for 2 weeks tomorrow so I only get to drive it home and have to take it easy on it for a while. I heard of a break in period for the centerforce, is this true?

Ive been at the rack twice. Ive had more than two people come up to me and say in disbelief, " you roared all 4 gears".

Yes, I do believe you. You have to shift fast to do it. Im debating to change my clutch. Although mine is just fine, I worry about the future. I quick release of the clutch until it is all the way out, then quickly press the gas. A good transition between the too is best. Increase the delay if you have tire spin. Any more than 2200rpm, in my truck, would result in traction wasted as heat. Fun, but a waste.

I hear pro's and cons of a light flywheel. With the mass of our trucks, we should keep the OEM. Thoughts?

I just want a pressure plate and friction. Whats the cost? Something I can buy at Summit?

500 miles...not a mile less...kills ya, but you have to do it....the Centerforce has to seat...once it does then the problem is in the past...be patient...you will reap the rewards.

I asked Sean Roe about this too. He said he has had NO negative reports on the lighter mass of the Fidanza flywheel. Nothing but improved performance.
