Tonight a group of us hit the race track and had a great time. Towards the end of the night I was missing my shifts and was getting pissed.

My last run I did started off good. Ripped up the tires in first :burnout: and shifted into second she broke lose again in second:burnout: , pushed in the clutch and shifted into thrid. I hit the gas and the rmps just jump. I hit the clutch and there was no clutch. the clutch was down to the floor and completely lifeless. i quickly shifted out of third with no problem and then clutch popped out and was fine.

My question is.......:dontknow: " WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED?" "WHY DID THE CLUTCH REACT LIKE THAT?" :dontknow:

I'm no pro - but it sounds like it musta got real hot and did a lot of slipping

Dude you were PISSED that first time it happened. Was it driving ok on the way back? Seemed like it was! LOL
You jinxed me. My last run was a nasty scratch into 4th gear against that stupid freakin benz!

It rode fine on the way home, we will have to see next time around. I will wait for a few more to chim in. Thanks Wifey for the info.

Could have been several things. Did you notice any pieces of plastic on the floor at your feet? The linkage deal is plastic and has broken before on others members trucks. Secondly were you slipping the clutch at all? I hope not. It gets really hot and goes in the shitter when overheated.

So it drove fine on the way home............are you sure you put it into third or could you have possibly had it in neutral? That would explain the rpms going up with no power to the wheels, but not the limpdick clutch pedal.

Did you smell any burnt clutch smell? If you did burn it you would know, thats for sure. The fact that it spun the tires going into second means its gripping good. I would really check the linkage. It could be damaged.

Maybe you got so hot under there that you boiled the hydraulic fluid to the point where it no longer could create any pressure.... Then when it cooled back down, the fluid became viscous again....

Have you shielded your clutch lines yet?

Thanks Patrick. Yeah i could smell it. I could tell it had been burnt, but there was no linkage on the floor and worked fine on the way home after a short cool down. I was slipping the clutch a bit tonight instead of dumnping it. Hopefully i didnt do any serious damage. what do u think?

Call Boomer or Dan Cragin bro......(310) 841-6996.....Dan did mine....

I'm an old retired guy bro..... Not a wrench.... All I know is that they get the clutch lines away from the heat sources...exhaust and shit....

Boomer or Dan C. can straighten you out....

Good luck and God bless..

Thanks again brotha. Maybe Boomer will chime and provide some info if not I think i will give him a call anyways. But i think u are right on this one. A few other guys at the track said the same thing.

Never slip it dude!!! Fastest way to spend $2k!!!! I just slipped it 5 or six times and she burned up!!! Entire clutch system was fubar`d!!!! Hello Roe Racing, yeah I need a complete clutch deal, yeah I got my Visa card ready!! LOL

Always dump the clutch, always!!! The slave unit is a plastic composite deal that melts like butter when the hot temps rise. Slipping creates an insane amount of heat in there!!!

Is the clutch holding now? Can you still chirp second gear? If so, you cool for now.

patrick

I've been hearing a lot of clutch problems especially on the 04 models. I thought the DODGE in the MY05 had rectified this problem, or is this case different?

jut order the heat shields from either guy and do it yourself...The clutchlines run right by the headers or somethin that make em real hot......get a QC...auto!

When I was at DC, Dan said the 04's her routed closer to the exhaust then the 05's, but needless to say, even the 05 guys should put some extra shielding on just to make sure...cheap insurance..

I only slipped it two times and then it was down hill from there. Yeah it still chirps in second, but i could smell it burnin. i think i am gonna go ahead and save up for that new clutch set up anyways.

Dude, I just posted a similar incident last week. Almost the same thing. I didn't lose my pedal but I smoked it when I hit second. I got off it immediately and it's working fine now.
I see a Roe kit in my future too now.:(

bro first off if you were doing "hot laps" that will heat it up way toomuch.

You need to cool it off for at least 20-30 minutes between runs.

second change the fluid to motul 600, your fluid is now toast.

Wrap some shielding around the line from the slave cylinder to the tranny,

And yes ,you need a clutch, as well a flywheel , or have yours turned.

The clutch will work fine normally, but under heavy conditions it may fail at any time, be careful

Thanks bro, Do u think just from this one time that my clutch is now toast?
I hope its not toast after a few runs. I say it was more like 10-15 mins between runs and it was hotter than hell that day too.

I am not a wrench at all so who do i go about changing the fluid an such?

I think i am going to just save up and get the new clutch set up, i figure its going to go sooner or later anyways.
