I jumped on it tonight, smoke from under the truck and the burning smell. I then went to a out of the way location and applied some power, but not getting on it and I could smell the burning smell again.

I have seen a couple threads about the factory clutch being lousy and aftermarket is the way to go. But.... I rather spend the money on headers right now so.....

Has anyone taken their truck in for a factory replacement under warranty? Did they give you hell about it? I can imagine they will call BS, but it is in fact under warranty. There are no performance mods to the truck. Not to mention I only have put 400 miles on the truck since I got it, mostly highway.

If you are not moded and only have 400 mile since purchase Hell yah I would ask for it under warranty!!! If you bought it used this must have been a pre-existing issue. If new stick it to the man!!!

You can definitely have the clutch replaced under warranty. I would take the opportunity to install a better clutch ( centerforce)at this time though!! Not much sense in adding power if your gonna run thes cheap stock clutches!!!:dontknow:

Go ahead and throw in a Viper Master and slave cylinder and a fidanza lightweigt flywheel while your at it!!

I had mine replaced under warranty and had the dealer install all the above items. They gave me the stock clutch in hand, which I still have!! No more clutch smell, chatter or slippage!!:star:

I'd be the last one to argue or to disagree with Marc or the Prof. And if they say that those products are top notch, go with them.

I personally started having clutch problems...(really BAD clutch problems) at only 700 miles. I was into my third clutch, my second flywheel and second T56 tranny by 1000 miles. I'm not sure if that's a record or not.

But after dumping a grand into the RPS turbo clutch and flywheel... (a total POS) And after finally putting the Viper clutch hydraulics in, I have found the stock clutch and flywheel to work really well.... and believe me, I like to smoke the hoops up.

Just wanted to give ya my experience.... Maybe I don't really need a beefed up clutch cuz I don't make that much power. Who knows.(?)

It will depend on the relationship you have with your dealership, as to whether or not they will install non-Moparts in your ride. My dealership refused, but then again, they suck.

Doing the Viper hydraulics has resolved lots of issues. Doing that upgrade shouldn't put too big of a dent in your header budget. ;)

Just dont tell them you were racing!!!! Clutch comes with a 12 month 12k warranty. Viper master/slave upgrade is not that expensive, $150 if I remember correctly.

If you were slipping the stocker at all, she will burn baby burn everytime. This truck is too heavy for slipping.

Silent D...you are putting a lot of horses to the pavement, and the stock clutch is holding up well...this is very interesting...I have heard a from several that the stock clutch is still strong after lots of miles, but most of those were pretty stock applications. This is interesting data. Lots of us have had problems, but there is evidence that quite a few and now you with significant power mods, that have not...hummmmmm....

Thanks for the insight...I just marvel at the various experiences with these wonderful toys...

Can't argue with this ... again going to depend on the dealership.
Had my master / slave go a week before ROE did the entire clutch upgrade.
No complaints with the new clutch set-up.

Good luck.... I got 7400 miles out of the stocker.

Yep, I was fortunate to have a great Viper Tech (Bam Bam) who was very knowledgable and would not void warranty unless Item installed was the reason for failure.

But unfortunately he has moved to somewhere in SC I believe and is working at another dealer there. I guess my next visit for oil change will tell what his replacement will be like!!

Maybe the Prof and I will be making trips to SC to get our warranty work done??:dontknow:

OK, you have convinced me to go with aftermarket parts, even if the dealer will not do it (I will still demand the stock parts though).

Found the Centerforce Clutch at Summit for $511. DF-985985 sound like the correct part #?

As for a lightweight flywheel, what is everyone running, Summit is not listing any for the truck, or I can not find it....

My stock clutch was holding up great until I tried to slip it on a 3500 rpm launch at a well prepped track. :dontknow:

Haven't done anymore hard runs yet to see if it's gonna slip again. I may be screwed. :D

Yes sir,

Since I did the GTS clutch hydraulics mod (and DCs clutchline sheilding) the stock clutch has been very good to me.... I don't have many miles (about 10,500) but nearly 9000 of them are on the latest stock clutch and flywheel.

And, as I said, I do like to toast 'em up good from time to time..:burnout:

I have no complaints on it.....
