Cold air box for the Roe supercharger?

I don't think we are all talking the same issue...Mike was talking about hot air deflector that Roe uses to keep the hot air from lower in the engine compartment from coming directly into the air filter on the front of the throttle body...I too have not liked the look this created...it is not an issue with performance (yet) it is an issue of esthetic's...here is a picture of the deflector that I have chosen to not use due to "looks"...Mike has addressed the issue in a more creative way...

Notice the dust on my deflector...it sits in the garage...

The deflector "only" reduces IAT 15 degrees (per Dave @ Roe)....would be interesting to log the difference in intake temps with the different set-up's, and see the #'s on a dyno.... but that will have to wait for another day.:dontknow:

thanks for the heads up prof. I'm getting my VEC this week. Been gearing up for the next level, just can't quite decide what that might be. You have a killer Roe system, Justin has got a awesome Nos setup, Tim has a sweet NA build going, just can't decide????

There are a couple of reasons I decided to do this project, some practical, some cosmetic.

Althugh I love the supercharger, I'm not crazy about the Roe hood intake baffle/shield assembly. Not only does it detract from the beauty of the blower assembly, but if it actually funnels the cold air into the filter, it is then robbing the engine compartment of its share of cooling air circulation.

In all honesty, maybe this was a solution looking for a problem, but the bottom line is I had to get it out of my system, and now here it is, to the best of my knowledge, the first Roe with CAI box.

I scavenged a JMB intake elbow and cold air box, which I had to cut in order to fit the wider intake tubing. Used two 4" O.D. 45-deg stainless steel elbows, joined together with black 4" I.D. flex tube and stainless clamps. The transition to the oval filter intake was made with a 4" section of 4.5" O.D. aluminum tubing, shaped into an oval, and a black reducer boot (4.5" I.D to 4" I.D).

The Methanol injection nozzle remained in the bracket inside the filter, so the meth supply tube was simply rerouted. I figured the engine should be safe with the meth having to travel the extra 18" before going into the throttle body... besides the longer "dwell" time of the mist may allow for further evapotation and therefore further cooling of the air before going into the blower, but that is pure speculation on my part.

The PCV tube fitting and air temp sensors were installed on the rubber JMB elbow.

The front grill baffle on the passenger side was removed so air will flow straight into the box.

I haven't done much driving with it yet, just enough to know I haven't screwed anything up. I don't expect any noticeable performance increases, but at least I know both the intake and the engine compartment are getting their share of fresh air.

Plus, I think she looks purty as hell!!!

:D

How about this very unique and very logical approach:

Do the Tim internal approach first, add the Roe, then be the only person around with a stone solid built engine, supporting a Roe top mount twin screw....with JMB's NOS system....

That is a low to mid 10's machine...no sweat...that will live forever on the street. All you need is the commitment, and a little coin.

Fixed..

Hahaha, just kidding ;)

Now i was reading up a little and you guys said that
cold air comes from the bottom of the truck.... sooooo, what if you took a
Viper car intake from a TT setup and made some pipe that goes to the bottom
of the truck? i guess the first question that comes to mind is that too much pipe?
not sure :dontknow: don't think it matters.. but if you just fashioned some
simple ram air type scoops on the bottom.. makeing them thin and wide shouldn't
that work much better than what we have going on now?

enlighten me plz

Would like to hear Roe comment on this!

hey srt-mike, maybe, with the right approach to roe, you could sell your idea to them as an option for new customers...maybe you could even get paid for the idea. i think it shows your creative side and is a great idea and looks killer. for me personally, i like the look of the filter (without the shield). so when i finally get mine, thanks to your idea, i have options...

Thank you for the compliments guys.

I have to tell you, it was time consuming and expensive for me to make, so there will be no more coming out of my garage. I just work too darm much and really don't have the right tools or parts to make any more.
For someone with a decent shop and the right tools/resources this kind of thing could be easy to put together, as you can see by the pics.

As far as new ideas go, this is far from it. These days, almost everytime I look into the engine bay of a high performance car there is all this nice fat polished tube, I just wanted some in my truck ;)

Maybe Paxton envy? :D Nah, I really like my top mount :burnout:

But really, if anyone is inclined to make something like this on their own, I'll be happy to tell you where I got the parts to make mine.

Ahhhhh, and I see that you are another "wrapper" of your headers...I plan to unwrap this winter and have the long tubes coated!

Man, I would like to do that also, but I couldn't imagine going through that installation a second time, my God that was brutal.

KILLER-KILLER-KILLER!
I,ve discussed this with N.B.T,except with an airbox.
But you nailed it,Looks great!!!:burnout: :burnout: :burnout:
