I want to firm up my shifting when I take my truck in to have the bands adjusted. Is it worth the extra money to get a complete valve body or just put in a good shift kit.

I am on a tight budget and want to get some Bassani Headers also. This is what is causing me to rethink my tranny upgrades.

Can the dealer change your stall RPM's?

THANKS!

The shift kit should do the job for you, you will like the difference.

No, the stall RPMs, is not computer controlled, its controlled by the stall converter, stock is around 1400-1500. A HQ billet converter will cost you around $1300-1700.

Personally if you on a tight budget, I would do the trans-go shift kit, and the band upgrades... but if you feeling it slip now.. then your clutch packs may also be showing signs of wear.. mine were.. at 6k miles...

Hope that helps.

+1:D .............

I don't think there is any slipping. Although there is a strange shift from 2nd to 3rd? It is almost like it misses the gear for a split second on light to medium throttle. It will then over rev and then shift? If I nail the throttle from a stop it shifts good.

What about a shift kit and the 5:1 Ratio Apply Lever?

Thanks for your input!

Mine did that also... occasionally.. to get rid of it.. I adjusted the tension on the kick down/shift cable... see attached picture.

I had to go "2.5" notches" inward total to get rid of the problem mostly...make sure you mark where its at currently with a grease pen or something.

Basically whats happening, its not slipping, its dropping back to down 1st gear, then upshifting... its really annoying...

Use a small flat blade screwdriver to partially remove the white clip.. hold on it... it will like to fly off and disapear in your garage.

Yes, the 5:1 apply lever the right one go with.. also the 2" kevlar band is good as well..

I dont understand all of the trans upgrade talk? :dontknow:

My truck shifts like a mean bitch. It shifts so hard it gets old at times. Is this not normal for a stock trans?

Take mine for a ride sometime (ask BurntRubber).. its a neck snapper... my ex-gf hated it.. it kept pincing her long hair on the seat backs.. until she learned to just sit back and deal with it... :D

Shifting hard a solid means good and long trans life.. because slipping a auto tranny.. (making it into a slush box) is wha burns them up... the harder and more solid it shifts... the better... mine will bark the tires going into Drive....

Dumb question but is your pic underneath the tranny or up by the intake? :dontknow:

THANKS!

if it shifts too hard, you'll get tire spin and tire spin = lost speed when racing!

Adjusted kick down but it did not cure the problem.(Better) I still have a couple notches left but the cable bottoms out and won't let me adjust it any more?

Help!

I ended up just getting the complete Suncoast Valve Body. I can't wait to get it installed.

did the valve body mod do the trick ---update

I hear alot of guys wanting firmer shifts.Dont these shift hard enough stock?
I chirp 2nd with ease.Any harder I will need a neck brace!! I know the life span of the tranny is def an issue on these trucks.Would the kit help with the dependability issue?

Come for a ride in my truck... mine is a neck snapper with the shift kit... put the kit in and the stock feels like a caddilac shifting.. :D

You will not only bark the second gear.. it will tear em in loose in 2nd...:burnout:

Absolutely a shift kit will extend the life, the softer the shift the more slippage you have, so the harder it shift the quicker the clutches lock up means less heat, and longer life....

Yep...This tranny is pretty solid, I bought a neck brace to keep in his truck! When it comes to QCs listen to Mike(nowwhat) & Scott(azpyroguy). They have some badazz rides and know alot about them, and spent mucho $$$ to make them the way they are...although Scott has headers and Mike does not! But you already knew that.:D

If i recall correctly your looking at about 200-300 bucks for the Trans Go kit plus installtion costs... and where your there you might as well replace the bands, and apply lever.

I think I saw southwest had some "ding deals" for Florida to AZ and back for around $250 or so...
