For the second time in a few months my work laptop got hit with a virus or Malware.
This time it is the Nuwar.A virus. Our IP people have Vipre Enterprise edition on the laptops. Is this worth a crap?
On this laptop I dont visit porn sites, facebook, VTCOA or anything like that, but still get hit. :dontknow: There are maybe 4 website that I visit, all work related.
Also, any idea on removing this thing. My IT preson wants to format the computer again on monday. I just got this back 2 weeks ago and finally have everything back on it.

Are you sure the virus isn't part of a document you have or maybe even a file

supposedly the IT people scanned all my files (programs) before I put them back on. :dontknow:

Do a complete scan and make sure

Some IS people are just lazy, and I get that feeling if he just wants to reformat and start over. Doesn't seem to me he is interested in the cause, just looking for the quick work around

Me too. I am running a scan now. Just wondering if this Vipre stuff isnt worth a crap. It seems like it is always running scans, but has yet to catch anything. It updates from a push from our server, so should be up to date. :dontknow:

Are they putting an enterprise load on your machine or do you have to re-install everything from disks?

If it's from disks, make sure they are the original disks, one of the biggest spreader of viruses is either a vendor IT company installing software from some made up disk, or your own IT folks doing the same thing.

Being as we have way over 100K machines in our company, we only use an enterprise standard software load.

Might want to get hold of some neutral scan software, if the virus software on your machine is infected, it won't recognize any viruses.

the Vipre software has found it, still running a full scan.
I know for a fact the the software was installed from original disks. No downloaded or pirated software at this company.

Well, so far it looks ok. Found the virus and cleaned or quarantened it. Rebooted and now the fake antivirus icon is gone. Doing another deep scan now.

Noticed from the Vipre overview
Scans completed 79
Cleaned by scanner 946
risks blocked by Active protection 0
risks blocked by Email protection 342
Total risks cleaned or blocked 1288 :dontknow:

www.frys.com sometimes you can get that shit fo free:D

message sent :) side note norton 360 sucks buy a copy of kaspersky or bit defender both 100x better :)

well the 2 i mentioned above are top notch programs average price but catch most of what comes through if you look up anti-virus comparisons they are usually in the top 5 both of them if not 1st and 2nd :)

gonna take a look at my desktop next. AVG and the microsoft crap has never found anything, but would like a 2nd opinion.

I agree... Most Norton software is a HUGE resource hog. They were great back in the day, but now they are all commercialized. :(

Kasperski is thee shit!

yeah kaspersky is great if you want total control over your anti-virus. bit defender is great if you want a great anti-virus you can install and forget about it sits there and never really needs any intervention it just does its thing :) i personally love kaspersky and here in another couple of weeks i will have my full corporate version up and running at work and be rid of Symantec once and for all. but for those not that great on computers bit defender they usually love :)

2nd scan came up clean. Gonna shut it down and run the ones you PMed me tomorrow.
Thanks again. :aetsch:
