allright fellas here is what happened, I have been a dumby and kept everthing on my laptop, eddie has told me for months to get a desktop and I just kept putting it off:eek:

well it happened, the hard drive crashed, everything and I do mean everything is gone, contacts, numbers, codes, whole nine yards, gone:mad:

but I got a ibm desktop nw an slowly getting used to it, and rebuilding things slowly,
but if anyone can or knows how to mirror my harddrive onto another, and could for me, or maybe try as I undersstand it may or maynot be doable, but if someone could it would def help out, all my pics and everything is history:eek:

but things are slowly geting back to normal, and hopefully by the 1st we will be back rolling, jsut wanted ya'll to know why emails or questions may have took a bit to answer, email was down for a couple days, and finally got it back working again

LOLOL merry christmas to me:D

Tony a good computer guy could retrieve the info off your laptop......as far as a backup you need an external hard drive and "ghosting" software....this backs up not only data but all programs too....I have this on our office computers...

take out one of the memory chips if you have two installed and see if it will boot,it might just be bad memory

well I am on this puter, learned my lesson, gonna back up everything:D

this will be stricktly a biz puter

but took the laptop to the geeks, and they said it would take $400 to mirror the hard drive and couldnt promise it would work

but it wouldnt do anything ,but he was able to pull up the blue scrren and said the problem was a hard drive was bad.

chub I def aint a puter bug bro, I can take it apart, jsut dont know what to do with the parts:D

I have replaced a hardrive n my old laptop thats not a prob tho, so pulin the hard drive outt this one is easy,

he pulled the drive and connected it to something and said the info was still there, but that it would have to be mirrored to another drive and "hope" it worked:confused:

I know this is going to sound really weird Tony, but it works. Take the hard drive out of your laptop and put it in a sealable plastic bag. Put that in your freezer for 24 hours.

After 24 hours, put it back in the laqptop and fire it up. If it works, get everything you can off of it, because once you shut it down, that's it, it will never spool up again.

I've seen this done many times at work and did it to one of my drives at home when it died. Sounds weird, but it actually works on dead drives about 75% of the time.

$400!!!!..YIKES...I had this done for $60 about a year ago.....got to watch these computer places...some will stick it in deep..

bestbuy is pretty reasonable for pulling info off bad drives their prices are set too so no hidden costs

put the hard drive in the freezer then try it again i have heard that this works never done it!!!!

This does work bud, i have done it before too!

It will work if the bearings in the drive have locked up and the drive will not "Spin Up" but it is only a One Shot deal. After the drive warms up it can lock up again..

It will not work for a Software Issue....

Bump for Da1Chief. Also sent ya a PM Tony.

I break computers for a living :D

make sure if you really value your data you do a raid mirror setup and use enterprise class drives. my main hdd has a mean failure time of 1,000,000 hours of use. western digital all the way. type in the word seagate and brick and see what happens.

data recovery could be done just by swapping the platters from your old HDD to an identical one. ya gotta know how thou. a crash is easy, fire makes things harder.

laptop or not does not really matter, the other route you can use is an external hard drive. just backup your data weekly. they even have ones with a big button that backs up everything automatically.
