crazy situation

Strage situation, I think they should force treatment and arrest the mother or maybe even both parents.

They need to keep the hell out of this issue. The government does not have the right to interfear in this. If the family has some religious belief against treatment, or the kid is saying "I've been poked and proded enough, I want to be left alone" That's his business.

He should be required to listen to all his options for treatment or no treatment, then the government needs to get the hell out of it. They need to stop meddeling in the personal issues of us citizens.

If he's been given the options and chooses to continue without all the crap they want to do medically, then it's his decision, not some government official.

I also believe in doing everything for my kids and grandkids, but if one of them was in this same situation and decided they wanted to stop treatment, that's what we do and Katy bar the doors if you try to get in the way of their decision.

Just like I've told my wife and kids, if ever something happens to me and it can't be fixed or my quality of life would be impacted, pull the plug, turn off the lights, the party is over, and I fully expect them to honor that request. If they don't and by some means I recover after going through medical hell, somebody is going to have a bloody nose. If I would die after them doing all their medical miracles, I'm coming back to haunt the crap out of someone for eternity.

AMEN BROTHER!!:congrats: I feel like we are slowly moving towards a socialist society with the government in control. Call me crazy but taking $700 billion dollars of our tax money to "steer" the economy back up, loaning OUR money to companies that have run them straight into the ground and forcing a publicly held corporation's CEO (GM) to resign.

It's not like these parents are sitting by and watching their son die. These parents have decided to try alternative treatments to battle their son's cancer. The government should have no right to dictate what type of treatment their son receives.

you guys took the words right out of my mouth... a 100% agree with the previous 3 posts! the government is mearly our agent who represents us...their sworn duty is not to invade the lives and privacy of US citizens. they need to stay out of our affairs.

We had the same issue in utah a few years back and it was ugly all the way around.

Some of the arguements were interesting.

If a procedure can be dictated by a physician or hospital, why does one need written permission/authorization to perform a procedure.

Why is this same level of care not forced upon people who do not have the capability of paying?

There were a lot of things discussed in the case here and jail time was served. But my question from the very beginning, was...

What is the difference between parent rights and parent responsibility. Based on what I read, it seemed to be a moving target. Each time an issue was met by the family through some sort of legal basis, the hospital would work another angle or loophole.

It pretty much started off with "Do you authorized this treatment to be done?" and the answer was "no"!

Then, it evolved into a series of legal arguements completely forgetting the very first legal piece of documentation handed to the responsible party.

While all this was going on, there were other children needing the exact same servies, but could not get them because...... their insurance didn't cover it and they did not have wealth.

I better quit now, before i piss some people off

I think the parents in this case have shown responsibility to get treatment for him. Whether we agree with the treatment they decided to get for their child or not; that's their call - not ours or the government.
