Background:
I'm installing a 2004 Gen III Viper V10 engine in a 1970 Dodge Charger. For those that remembered, it came from a rolled black SRT-10 RC...
I am using the stock PCM. I would like to update my stock guages - yet retain the classic muscle car look (I like the Autometer Sportcomp II gages.)
Currently, I have an engine run stand with the original SRT-10 instrument cluster - everything works, but I do NOT want to use these gages - they appear to be all electric and perhaps USB based...
I am looking for tips/suggestions on the type of gages to purchase that can interface in with the v10. I have no problem installing new/differenct sensors as required.
However, the engine still needs to run using the stock PCM - so I need to be careful not to disable anything that is vital for the PCM to keep the engine running.
I have no experience tackling this type of electronics modifications - everything on this build has been one challenge or another, but this one is definately over my experience. I do have the Viper FSM - just want to try to save some time and find someone who has done this.
Looking for tips and pitfalls - what to do, and mistakes to avoid.
Has anyone tried this - even if you have installed aftermarket instruments in your trucks, are there any general guidelines/suggestions on what to try?
