So, among my massive to-do list on my truck I'm thinking about trying to do a headliner....

I could do it the easy way and just dye the stock headliner black.
Or I could step it up and do it in (black) micro-suede...
Or I could get tricky and do a 2 tone (with a red and a black suede) with some simple but neat design....

I think I have the capicity to do it in suede in one color, but wouldn't know where to begin for a two tone... I've seen pics of it done before though.

Has anyone had experience with this? Would stitching be involved or something? Dunno how they get the clean line. I'll post a pic of what I've seen.

After taking a closer look at the images I uploaded, it seems they simply overlapped the white/silver over the black and stitched it down to it.... interesting... I might could pull that off

for factory cloth headliner, i would think RIT fabric dye would work just fine. you can get that in any grocery store or wal-mart-target

thanks mutt. im gonna try that tomorrow. btw if you need my address pm me

yea i wanna a black interior. so i figure i'll try it. if i screw it up, ill just have to pay to get it covered lol

i am thinking the same thing, but how are you going to cover the plastic trim pieces? the headliner is the easy part, i am going to use fabric leather and cover mine, the trim pieces are going to be the hard part

i did the interior in my acura from tan to black. you can get a spraypaint specially designed for interior plastics and it works great. the only reason i haven't done it until now is i never thought of dying the headliner and figured it would look stupid with just that tan

if you do that please post pics and the name of the product...me and turtle were looking at that last night trying to figure out how to do it...paint would be great if it works and looks good

go to advanced auto parts, they have it on the shelf in a dozen colors for about 5 bucks a can. if you do it, when you prep it wipe the pieces with rubbing alcohol VERY well. as long as you do that the paint sticks amazingly.

i will. its all just a matter of the weather. the truck is stuck outside cause of another project in the garage, and we are got about 2" of white s*** tonight so we'll see if i get it apart tomorrow or not

I think I've decided on suede and I'll probably begin this project after I get my 300ZX back from the body shop so I'll have a ride and then I can strip the truck down bare again and make some major changes. I'll do everything except the seats in this round, which I'll practice on the Z before doing that anyway. May have a pro do those anyway.

watch out for those "pros". they can really screw ya. one other guy on here got raped :hmmmm:

*twitch* yeah.......... wonder who...

I've learned my lesson though...... I'll do it myself anyway though first, I mean, if I have the resolve to pay the money to a pro, I may as well try it myself first, worst case I'm out materials cost but I've gained experience.

thats the way i look at it. why pay someone else to do something i may be able to do myself??

Attached link is from a company called SEM. I've used their products for years doing exactly what you want to do with great results. Like any painting project prep is key so take your time and do it right....the first time.

Most autopaint suppliers and large fabric wholesalers carry SEM products.
