I was thinking about how to put a shift light into the truck but with out having that huge raptor pod sticking up and looking bulky.

Do you think that I could tap into the Tack wire and feed off that into a some sort of relay or POT, the relay would keep from putting a drain on the tack and causing a lower reading or something..

and from there drilling maybe 10 holes across the top of the dash just above the cluster, and then sink in 10 led's in a line maybe 4 in the center RED, 2 on each side of that yellow and then 1 on each side of that green and have em nice and spread out. or kinda like looking at a F1 Steering wheel..

and as you come up the rpm and get to say 5k the green comes on, 5.5k the yellow and 5.8/6k Red..

and you would just have to have each set of leds on a relay which would activate at a voltage that is the same as the tack voltage at that rpm..and if your relays had a pot built in you could adjust what rpm you wanted on each stage...

As well I would wire in a small switch some where so you could deactivate it if you wanted or keep it going..

Best part is you would not even see it it would totally integrate into the dash...

what ya think???

I think this may be a project for this winter for me..
 
Why not just do the raptor and drill it into the A pillar. I saw a pic where someone did it, so there is room.
I wanted to do it to mine, just never got around to it.
The raptor can also be adjusted for when you want it to light up.
 
I can't resist. I'm sorry bud. But are u serious? Drill holes in ur dash, slap multi-colored LEDs in them and have them light up like a Christmas tree? Dude, just go to Walmart, buy a string of those fancy led Christmas lights, lay them across the dash, tap into ur tach signal and let her rip. Haha. Okay I'm sorry go back to ur great idea.
 
Your lightweight rotating assembly probably revs to quickly for the lights to accurately measure your rpm, common problem when using density reducing techniques during assembly.

hmmm ya thinking of something thats totaly hidden away and not noticable that raptor looks pretty good.. but would almost like to take the led's out of the end and add a couple inches of wire to them and sink a few just flush with the plastic .. so when there not is use you would not even see it..
 
With all the switches under your steering column and gauges, now your worried about making a shift light hidden? :dontknow:

It's not shift light. Read the title correctly. It says custom shif light. And I'm the dumbass. Haha
 
The switches under the steering wheel look clean like they belong,, well as clean as possible with out totally hiding in the center consul or something.. I like a bit of race look but I really hate the big shift like look or big tack on the dash sorta deal... so was trying to hide it like my meth light is, it looks factory..
 
The face of the shift light is pretty small
 
See how the meth light can barely been seen.. i think something like that but sunk into the dark part of the dash maybe .. not really sure..

I see what your saying, but wouldn't you want the shift light to be bright enough to see it (even during the day?). I am pretty sure you can get to where the LED's are soldered to on the raptor, plus the circuits already built. So tuck the raptor under the dash where you can get to it for adjustment and run the LED(s) up like you say.
 
ya that might save a big headache,,, if figuring out my own circuit.... this will be a winter project.. gotta finish the sterio first and the no2. all my no2 parts coming in this week :)... so hopefully have a test run next week sometime if I can get everything going
 
mine is just bolted to the a pillar... but i'll admit it's bright as shit...

it's red and the whole interior of the truck lights up at night, lol, but i think there's a cover so it's a little muted... gotta find one...

i don't think it's intrusive... sits right next to the oil temp gauge
