Hey guys (and gals), as we have a rather strict law concerning tuning (= mainly visual enhancement on cars) here in belgium I was wondering if our friends in the US also know this kind of BS.
I agree, to safeguard the safety of the occupants and other people on the roads you have to put some boundries to it, but if we continue like this we have to get a certificate in the future when we want to hang a pineapple flavoured tree on the rea view mirror :argh: :argh: :argh:

What falls under this tuning law (some examples): changing lights, seat, seatbelts, spoilers, mirrors, tinting windows, exhausts, chips (flash), brakes, suspension, removing door handles, soundsystems, pedals, SC's, etc....
You name it and we have a rule for it... it drives me crazy:(

Will you share my pain or is it really the land of the free over there ...

Yep, we have rules for that kind of stuff too. Over here rules vary depending on the state you reside in and their motor vehicle inspection codes. I live in Virginia and we have rules/limits on headlights and lighting in general, window tint, suspension modifications, seat belts, and in some counties (like mine) strict emissions requirements. We also have rules on many other things -- too many to list here.

Yup... You can get pulled over for speedin here in florida and its seems like cops dont even pay attention to tint and whatnot. You can geta ticket for playin your sound system too loud or with certain colors of lights o your car.b ut no emissions tests or anything

We use to have yearly safety inspections, but they did away with it.
Can pretty much get away with anything that rolls.

DOT keeps busy with Over the truck drivers (over weight hauling) since it is tearing up the interstate.

There are restrictions everywhere but unlike your country and others they really don't enforce it here, Unless your dicking around and piss acop off then they will enforce it. Like in Illinois tinted windows on driverside and passenger front windows if 4 door can not be tinted but I see thousands of cars with tinted windows, also with emmisions they don't get out and check your ca( half of them can't even spell there names) they plug your car into a computer if you fail emissions then you hav 3 chances to fix it or the suspend you plates, so it sounds like they actually go after the people that sell it too. Yes I say this is truly the LAND OF THE FREE, for now come on over we need some legal immigrants, LOL. Yes for building your vehicle Skies the limit, especially if you go completely track.

emissions I can accept, noise, I can accept. but if you install a bigger radio you need to get the car inspected, pay 40 euro. For anything else, i.e non-OEM (diff gearstick, etc) you need certification and inspection...drives me up the wall.:argh:
Lucky for me, they don't notice most of it:p

I'm wondering what they'll say when Barry needs to go to his next inspection. Jee sir is this a SC on top? :dontknow: Nope, I'm a hot dude, i needed to upgrade my airco system :D :D

Actually, here in Ohio, I know plenty of people that have received warnings and tickets for having ANYTHING hanging from the rear view mirror. They say it obstructs the driver's view.
