DAMAGED REAR END ?

hey guys i just had the chance to drive truck again since panama and i have noticed a slight growl coming from rear end i think ... i did take it to the drag strip and in one run i had some axle hop at one launch .. any ideas what it is ?
 
like a low pitched growling noise and rpms are consistant even when i put trans in nuetral at a roll
 
Check the universal joints, be sure that there is no slack...

why are they called universal joints, when they are vehicle specific

Universal as in various direction capability as opposed to a joint that only goes one way. Elbow goes one way...shoulder joint is much more flexible unless it is in an old fart like me...
 
thanks guys for the input ,, i will check , may have something to do with axle flexing more when i removed overload spring from bottom to top :dontknow:
 
does anyone have a how-to on removing and installing the spider gears? Also where people have gone to get them cryo'd. I looked at this company in nebraska. but i want someone that people have already used and have good things to say with service and quality.
