Hey guys, this is my first post here; it's great to see a community dedicated just to this amazing truck.

Well, I have an 04 SRT-10 with barely 7500 miles on it. Occasionally (though it's been happening more lately), I start the truck and cannot get it into gear at all. I have to shut it off, put it in first, then start it up and I can drive. While I'm driving, I have to force it into each gear, and it's almost impossible to get into reverse.

I took it to Crown Dodge in Ventura, California and they told us the clutch was fried and would charge $1800 to replace it. I was shocked to hear this, since the truck has never been driven hard, ever. My father drove it most of these 7500 miles since we got it in 04, and he recently gave it to me to drive. I'm 20, and I know it wasn't anything I did since I've known how to drive stick properly for a while. My father is probably not as knowledgeable as me, but I still doubt he could have ruined the clutch.

So, is it definitely my clutch that's the problem? I hope someone else knows what I'm describing.

If it is, where have you guys gone to get your clutches replaced and how much did you get charged? I apologize if this has been discussed to death before.

Welcome to the vtcoa

Send a PM to Stinker,

he is a vendor here and if you need a new clutch,he has good prices

you should also get the Viper hydraulics set-up,makes shifting much easier

I paid about $1,000 for new centerforce clutch and upgraded Viper hyd

and about $275 for install

Hope that helps :D

Welcome to the club:rock: :marchmellow:

Add a shifter to the list, if you don't already have one

Is the truck still under warranty(extended?). If not, try to get it to a Viper specialist like DC Performance. You should be able to replace everything for well under what the dealer quoted you, but I have a grocery getter, so what do I know:dontknow: :dontknow: :D :D :D

Like nelson stated, guys name is STINKER , they call him that cause he is a sheep herder :marchmellow:  :D :D I prolly got a little bit a that in me to :marchmellow: 04s clutch goes out way faster than 05:dontknow: let me go git his link for ya..............welcome ............asylum:) :D  :burnout:

honestly Garret , dont know where ya from bud, but Justin is in St louis mo.

he has a kit with the hydraulics and a centerforce clutch for I think $1500 or so.

but the oem hydraulics is not up to par on the trucks, the upgrade is the metal viper parts for the hydraulics.

depending on you cash situation, iwould go with the entire kit, if you wnat jsut the clutch , i could probably get jsut that for ya.

most installs are arond the $3-400 rang or should be.

Justins sig is JMB performance

As many have stated, 1800 would get you the install on upgraded parts easily.

Add a couple hundred more and you can get a shifter too.

ya checked the fluid??????

Welcome to the nut house:D
Most any good mechanic can install the clutch if you do not go to Dan at DC. The one thing most will not know is to index ( mark ) the drive shaft and tranny (splines) so it all goes back in the exact same place as the drive shaft was before removal.

This is important as the final drive shaft balancing is done after the truck is assembled

Wow, thanks for all the quick responses guys! I'll definitely look into ordering one off one of those websites and having someone install it. Come to think of it, I can't even remember the last time we checked the clutch fluid, so that would probably be the first thing we should do before replacing the it. Just got to be wary of the dealership trying to stick it to me, you know?

I bought the complete upgraded viper clutch system from JMB justin here on the board. I just did mine and now it has about 700 miles and the consistency of the bite, the ease to shift is great!

Its hard to trust some dealerships, but I can do your clutch for 300 bucks. I will install the entire jmb clutch kit including the hydraulics and will have it done in about 5 hours.

One thing to consider which I dont think will be a promblem for you since it has 7k miles is to also replace the flywheel. mine was real bad but then again I had about 43k on it with some street and track usage

if its an 04 and low miles, look for the line comming from the mastercylinder down to the tranny, make sure it isnt close to the exhaaust, if it is , move it away.

then at the very least first I would try to bleed the fluid and replace it with a hi temp fluid,
the fluid in 04's seemed to get poluted quickly, and a change sometimes made a world of difference

JMB's kit is what I used I think it was about 1k it works great no complaints yet after 1 year. Justin is great to deal with if you or your shop has any questions. I don't think Stinker has the upgraded viper master and slave but maybe he does now.
