On Sunday, December 7th, 1941 the Japanese launched a Surprise attack against the U.S. Forces stationed at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. By planning his attack on a Sunday, the Japanese commander Admiral Nagumo, hoped to catch the entire fleet in port. As luck Would have it, the Aircraft Carriers and one of the Battleships were not in port. (The USS Enterprise was returning from Wake Island, where it had just delivered some aircraft.

The USS Lexington was ferrying aircraft to Midway, and the USS Saratoga and USS Colorado were undergoing repairs in the United States ).

In spite of the latest intelligence reports about the missing Aircraft carriers (his most important targets), Admiral Nagumo Decided to continue the attack with his force of six carriers and 423 aircraft.

At a range of 230 miles north of Oahu, he launched the first wave of a two-wave attack.

Beginning at 0600 hours, his First wave consisted of 183 fighters and torpedo bombers which Struck at the fleet in Pearl Harbor and the airfields in Hickam, Kaneohe and Ewa.

The second strike, launched at 0715 hours, consisted of 167 aircraft, which again struck at the same targets.

At 0753 hours the first wave consisting of 40 Nakajima B5N2 "Kate" torpedo bombers, 51 Aichi D3A1 "Val" dive bombers, 50 high Altitude bombers and 43 Zeros struck airfields and Pearl Harbor Within the next hour, the second wave arrived and continued the Attack.

It's ok.............

We're even now..........And Japan is one of our closest allies.

God rest those who gave their lives so that governments could make war on each other.

"What if they gave a war. And nobody showed up.............?"

I spent a few "days" in Hawai'i...Kanehoe Bay saw some action and still has remnants of the "Zero's" that attacked that day along with a few Hangar's that have bullet holes from back in the day!

After a short (6 month) visit to Okinawa and Mainland Japan...I have to say, I am still angry. Then again, My fathers Mother is from the P.I (Phillipine Islands) and was a concentration camp member because of the Japanese. I have a familial reason for hating a certain ethnicity....that while unjustified these days, still holds strong. I would never disrespect any human because of their color. However, I wont ever forget what my poor Grandmother went through as a child.

***Side Note*** My mother's "Step Mother" was from Okinawa....her and my Dad's Mother never got along...a Phillipina and a Japanese will never see eye to eye. Period. True story. :(

great post tony - may god watch over our solders - ons who have fallen and one who still serv.

God Bless

I was stationed at SUB Base Pearl Harbor for 4 years.

The buildings STILL have bullet holes in them. I have gone to the Arizona several times. No One and I mean No One can't tell me the Ghost of those who lost their lives are not still there.

As a Navy Man (and son of a WWII Sailor), the emotions that this day brings to me are such a JUMBLE, All of them Very Valid. I want go into it any more than say that they cover the entire spectrum.

For those interested, You can contact the US Navy Fleet Reserve Pearl Harbor and order a US Flag Flown over the USS Arizona on any day you choose, Yes Even Today.. I have gotten one Dec 7th every 5 years since the 50th Aniversary.

To those that have served and to those who are serving today, From the Bottom of My Heart, Thank You....

All Gave Some, Some Gave All....
