After prodding, decided to do the header install myself. So fired up the truck to go out for dinner and get the remaining install items (copper gasket spray, anti-sieze and hi-temp silicone). Warm the truck up, start to back out and I'm staring at a small puddle of coolant in the driveway. Looks like a steady leak when running from what looks like under the thermostat housing.

So it's off to the stealership on Monday for warranty work. Maybe my truck doesn't want headers.:dontknow:

I 'll climb under there tomorrow when it's light out to see exactly where the leak is originating. Anyone else out there with any coolant leaks from around housing?

I've seen a truck on here that had a housing break at the bottom hard to get to bolt. The housing might be weak on these engines and break.

When you re-tightened the bolts did you do it evenly, in a star pattern. Bottom one, top one, side one, evenly. If not and you cranked each one down separately you may have cracked the housing. Also, did you put the gasket back in? Just a thought.

Thanks for the input guys. The t-stat is still to be installed so the housing hasn't been touched. Most likely the gasket, a clamp or hose is fubarred.

Just for future reference here is a pic showing the sequence to re-tighten the bolts on the housing. About 1/2 hour job. Hardest part is bottom bolt, PIA.

Just finished the header install on mine, Fender wells and steering column only things in the way, calls for removal on install (I'm sure you already read up on it) and the front tires of course. If I can be of any help in any way let me know. Trying to get done for the GTG on the 5th in Milford?
Got the lowering kit in mine, also got Throttle body and Tuner on the way. If I'm lucky I may get done by the 5th.
Good luck with the leak.

Use a #30 torx bit and when you put it back in use tap or silicone to keep it on the bit, takes 2 mins.

what would this be in foot pounds? just divide by 12?

Clamp went bad on hose to t-stat housing causing the leak underneath. Now back to tackling the headers if time permits this week.

Yes, 7.92 ft/lbs (95 divided by 12). In other words, not real tight, get it to stop turning and then a little tug. Even is the key.
