deleate cats

well i just got through deleating my cats, the front ones i just gutted and the back ones i just took out and replaced with pipe. Overall I am pleased with the sound , not really louder than before till you get on it and even then its not that much louder, just deeper if that makes since. What do you guys think I gained by doing that?

And just saying thanks to everybody on here, all of you have been very helpful on just the few upgrades I have did these past 2 weeks
 
Hey Stick.....How hard was it to gut them and is there an O2 sensor there to worry about??
This sounds like a good and cheap mod that i might just do!!
 
the front ones was easy to gut out. The back ones has steel mesh so i just deleated them totally. yes there is sensors but I just put them back in because when I got my pcm from dc ,they told me he was going to make it for they did not even read the sensors , so no codes should be going off. I guess I will see if he did that. If no check engine light comes on in a few days , i will know dc did what they said they were going to do
 
You probably gain about 25 horsepower. Give or take. It is still a help.

Thats good news for me as I am getting Hmrheads pcm relflashed to work for my truck. The mopar pcm already does this.

gutted cats actually hurt power cause they slow down the exhaust gas velocity. you'll lose bottom end power.

please explain,,,,it seems to me that all that honeycomb stuff would stop the flow alot more.. and do you still loose bottom end power if you just deleate them and put in pipe
 
The bottom line is that you do not lose ANY power... you gain power throughout the entire RPM range... There is no restriction. Done.
 
Would i gain any hp if I gutted my fronts and cut off my rears with stock exhaust??? Would it sound good or should I just wait till I can buy the magnaflow cat back?
 
Get the magnaflow then cut out the cats. The stock muffler is horrificly huge, and sound like shit. I think I saw some used maganflows for sale....buy one of those.

Im getting my info from sport compact car's website. according to them:

" Whatever you do, do not remove or gut out the catalytic converter on your street car. The monolithic, straight through design of modern 3-way catalytic converters is usually quite free flowing on most modern sport compact cars, producing at the most, only a pound or two of extra backpressure. A gutted cat can actually hurt power as the empty box can cause flow stagnation, which effectively shortens the length of the moving gas column in the exhaust pipe. The empty box can also reduce important flow velocity. This can be felt as a loss in bottom end power.

Because of these factors, some of our project cars have actually gained power with the addition of a cat. As the number of vehicles on our highways grows every year, we must all do our part to manage pollution. If every last bit of power must be extracted, as in real, off-the-street sanctioned racing, then the cat can be removed and replaced with a length of pipe, not simply gutted."
 
Stick on our QC and my Rc I gutted and removed both cats and rewelded them to look like stock.

On the dyno I gained 22rwhp on the QC and 26 on the RC.

I think there is a little difference between a 1.8L import engine and a 505 C.I. V-10, these trucks want to breathe and deleting the cats will increase HP and TQ with these trucks..
 
thankyou guys , Yes i have no more cats , and my stock exaust sounds alot better, not to loud but now it sounds like the truck has some balls. I am glad I did it. thankyou for all youre support guys
 
So if a person was the gut the front cats, they would need oxygen sensor simulators, correct? Now that we've discovered its a gain to do so. . .
 
I don't have my truck right now, but how hard is it to swith midpipes, is it something you can do quick before you go to the track?
