Just got a Delphi XM radio. It has a magnetic antenna mount. Have any of you installed one of these? Where did you put the antenna and how did you run the wire? Thanks for all help!!

Would be very interested in this myself, as that is what I expect Santa to be delivering me in a few months.

I was thinking there may be something we could do with the third brake light or something.

I have one that is mounted on the rights side over the front passenger side seat. I can get some pics for you later today and post it up. I did not install this so I can't really answer all your questions. But I will get pics of where the wire is so you guys can get a better look at how it is on mine.

Thanks. I would really appreciate the pictures. I was thinking about maybe something with the third brake light as well (can you go through the dome light from inside and out the third brake light???).

Also, where did you mount the receiver inside the cab? I was kind of thinking inside the console but it might not be too handy in there???

Anyway thanks for all help.

Here are a couple I found on my computer. In the second pic you can kind of see the antenna on the roof.

Damn Smoke, is that your pad?

Nice place dude!!

I wish. These pictures were sent to me from the guy I bought the truck from. That was his pad. I moving in 3 weeks into a 1200 SF base housing unit. It's small but no electric or water bill.

Ahhhhh.

Mmmmmm.... Base Housing! Well at least you are in the O's housing units. As I remember the housing in P'cola wasn't too bad! But I haven't been there since '91. Hehehhe...

Pensacola is nice, but I'm in Milton. Housing here is, well, not the best.

Didn't realize it was a different base. :dontknow:

I'm at NAS Whiting field. That is where the primary flight school and Advance for helos is located. The bases you are thinking of is NAS Pensacola or NAS Correy field.

Smoke, thanks for the pictures. Do you know how the reciever is attached to the overhead?

I mounted mine on the center console, ran the antenna wire out through a gromet on the fire wall up the left side of the windshield under the rubber molding an put the magnet right at the top of the window on the left side.

I will get you some better pictures later today. The bracket is screwed into the console. Now I would not recommend putting yours where mine is. I have to take my eyes off the road to see the display. The previous owner was a big guy so he put it up there. If I had a remote then it would't be so bad but now I have to reach up there and feel for the buttons to change the channel.

Thanks everyone. When you say you mounted it on the center console, do you mean down low where the cup holders are?

Also, are you guys just using the method where you tune your fm radio to a certain frequency or did you buy the "direct connect" method where you somehow connect it to the antenna?

Mine is tuned to a low FM band, but I think it is hard wired into the antenna as the sound quality is great. I have tried wireless connections for my MP3 player and they sounded awful. Plus with mine I can unplug the output from the reciever and plug in my MP3 player.

My brother was in Pensacola when he was in the Air Force. Is there an Air Force base there too? Is there an actual base in Milton?

I tune mine to 107.1 (I think) your area will make the difference.

Wish I had a pic to show you but heres my best at describing it.

The center console that has the Radio, then temp controls and a open area for storage. The horizontal piece between the temp controls and the open space, all the way to the left, I used a piece of double-stick tape and the mounting braket so I could swivel it up. the wires, I ran to the left and through the panel under the steering column, no holes required, the panel just drops down. All wires pretty much hidden. The power comes back out under the removeable panel at the base of the console under the cup holders, not holes required.

I've had mine off and on a couple of times. The double-stick tape makes that part easy.

I put my antennae on the dash right in the middle. If you pop the trim panel closest to the windshield up you'll see a recess onder that panel. Yuor antennae can be placed in that rcess if its small enough. The Sirius antennae goes in that spot on the stock units.
The Sat antennae does not need to be externally mounted

Airforce base is Eglin which is not really in Pensacola. It is closer to Ft. Walton Beach. And yes there is an actual base out here. It is the busiest base for flight hours that the Navy/Marines fly. Last year this base flew 11% of the total hours of the Navy and Marine Corp combined. Every day we fly over 276 flights and 600 hours from this small little base. We actually have 2 airfields with the base in the middle.
