Did dodge screw up my engine?

I understood anyways, now how much would .012" less cu. on 8cyls do? I also wonder if there is excessive clearance between the pistons and cyl walls (blowby, loss of power...)

could play a big part, Eddies engine was worse I do remember that, but we usually order pistons half over, and then fine hone them to fit each piston in each bore, but most likely you have some power loss from the issue, how much, not sure, or really afraid to say, but your headed in the right direction, jsut another reason I tell folks this isnt the best engine to take to just anyone to do a build on;)

My pistons were loose when I built my motor. When fresh I hit 703 rwhp. After about 6,000 miles I was down to 600 rwhp. When I pulled the motor I was closer to 500 rwhp. The pistons were toast. I now have custom fit pistons and my break in tune on the dyno was 637 rwhp with no meth.

Wow, Crappy pistons thrown into an engine.

How do you like the big ring landing on the stock pistons Jeff:argh: ,,no cracks anywhere? My pistons were loose when I built my motor. When fresh I hit 703 rwhp.

What did you have in there before for pistons that were toast??:dontknow: ands what are you running now for pistons??:dontknow:

What do the pistons measure ? bore size isn't important , it's clearance ! sloppy clearance makes more power but uses oil and has nasty blowby. to tight and there will be all kinds of problems. anyone know what clearances should be?

Joe, I didnt see any cracks on the pistons. Going to bring the heads to Louie this Saturday then my headers to get recoated (probably black called turbo-X 2000 degree)

Norbert, I can't really measure the pistons till they are our but I'll ask louie to take a look, guarantee they are loose too.

So I've been having low horsepower problem since I got my truck. With the roe I am down about 75-100rwhp max I've made was 507. I started pulling the engine apart and seen no ridge and a nice crosshatch still visible, and decided to measure the bore see if anything has been done I double checked with 2 different tools and my bore on the passenger side is 4.018" +/- .002 :dontknow:

Had anyone ran into this?

Does this make any sense?

Was this a 2006 truck change cause I've seen a few dyno numbers that were really low compared to the 04-05.

When I get the short block pulled out and sent to the machine shop i will get this looked at to verify.

RC or QC ?

I bought off the shelf Diamond pistons. I now have Arias pistons custom made to fit each cylinder. I also lowered the compression to 8.6 to 1. I'm running 10 pounds of boost. With the old pistons I was at 9.5 to 1 and 8 pounds of boost.

Did you notice much difference in power by lower the compressin that much?

I havn't got it tuned yet. But I did get a dyno tune to break it in. No meth and very little timing I'm at 637rwhp. The meth added over 40rwhp with my last set up. Seat power feels good sofar. The pistons are made for blower motors. I won't be getting the truck tuned till next spring but I should be over 700rwhp again.

Update

Took the engine to the machine shop. The heads and cylinders have very little wear. But what they found odd was there is still a crosshatch and no signs of the rings seating against the cylinder walls (on all the cylinders) he thinks the cause for my low power was the rings not seating which could have been caused by fuel wash, or maybe full synthetic oil from factory, or the privious owner not driving it hard??? Also found that my Balencer had spun a little before being pinned but is minor and an Ati Balencer will fix that.
