Well, here it goes. Good or bad I'm sharing Saturdays racing results with y'all.
Did some informal drag racing on a concrete runway saturday afternoon after a local car show (no flag girl/hot chick this year
). We did 1/4 mile runs with the state patrol recording our times with radar guns. I had my g-tech with me just to get an idea of what I was running. Density altitude was 4900-5000 feet, runway altitude was 2300 ft or so.
First race - I asked the guy I ran last year (C5 Z06) if he wanted to try her again (he got me last year) this year. He said yes. I didnt know it would be our first race of the afternoon with new drag radials and a lack of knowledge on my part as to the correct burnout. Shocks were on "1" in the front and "7" in the rear. Got a good launch (its concrete remember) with serious spin in first. I quickly went to second and he was still behind me (he had traction control on and was trying to turn it off). Fought with 3rd and by the time I got it and hammered the gas he was coming up on me very quickly. When I got to fourth he was ahead and beat me. I tell ya what, those Z06 have some serious pull and suprised me and forum member UDLUZ (he was shooting vid all day in my truck).
Second race - A guy with a Chevelle SS 454 wanted to try the Viper truck and lined up against me. Ok by me, this should make a great video good or bad outcome. Not sure if I lowered the rear shocks to "6" on this run (trying to get the back end to really squat on the launch) but anyways did another weak burnout and off we went. By the end of the 1/4 I was at least a few cars ahead and won.
Third race - A guy driving someone elses C5 Corvette coupe wanted a piece of me...must have saw the Z06 take me and thought he'd give it a shot. Sorry dude, beat him by several to many car lengths. Didnt miss any shifts
Last race - A nice guy with a newer (for a better lack of terms) Trans Am convertible...stock except a K&N filter. I did a better launch and by 2nd gear it was pretty much over. Didnt miss a shift here either and that was that.
I'm still thinking about that Z06. He really got me out of the hole last year (he's still running stock tires). I think that if he launched like he did last year it would have been closer but he would have still taken me...not sure. I need to race one on a prepped track and see what happens. Either way, they are a challenge for our trucks, modded or not. I'll give them that. I think that the shift points are an advantage to them with higher rev limits. When I'm shifting in 3rd or 4th I think they are still in the powerband for whatever gear they are in and thats where he's making up ground.
The new C6 and C6 Z06 would be a great race good or bad outcome.
Not sure when I'll get the video of all the races posted but it will be posted.
I'll be drag racing in Pueblo next friday night, drag radials should do much better given the track is prepped. I'll post my times when I return from road racing at the same facility that saturday and sunday.
