Hey, i've been doing alot of looking around and am thinking of just doing
the cam, rockers, and pushrods all in one shot. I just want a Comp cam and
some roller rockers. There's two types of roller rockers i've seen so far. Jesels
and Harlands. Harlands have a ratio of 1.7 and Jesel about 1.7? Can someone
explain to me whats the Difference between the two other than about $700.
Also, my main goal is to get this Rocket S/C. If i get this Cam and Rockers
should i have to worry about anything else?

Thanks,

Sharpi

Jesel is top of the line. T&D is prolly a close 2nd. They run about $1300 for the Gen III specific set. The Gen II T&Ds can be fitted to work on Gen III motors if your builder knows what he's doing.
I don't know that much about the Harlan Sharps but I have heard good and bad recommendations for them. I wouldn't buy them because of the negative feedback I got on them.

I have a set of T&Ds about to go on my truck.

Thanks for the info. ;) i'll have to check into the T&D's i just can't bring
myself to buying a set of Jesels for stock heads. So let me get this. Say i
buy a 708 cam, pushrods and keep the stock rockers. Does that sound like
a good idea?

also. i know this is from another site but do these numbers sound right?

Jessel rockers $1600
pushrods $150
springs $500
cam $500
Lifters $400
valve cover spacers $600
Gasket kit $300
Oil, filter $60
Radiator fluid $20
-----------------
$4130 ballpark in parts

Figure about 14 hours labor at $70--$980.

So a little over $5,000

I have been told that you can run the stock rockers, springs, lifters and pushrods with the 708 cam. However, here's a few things to keep in mind:

The springs and pushrods don't cost very much to replace while you're there and it just makes sense to upgrade them while it's apart.

The OEM lifters are about as dependable as any replacements that you can get. Being the roller style lifter there is nothing wrong with running the same stock ones with the new cam as long as you don't have high mileage on the motor already and are having no issues with them.

The rockers are not necessary to upgrade until you get into a custom cam that's considerably bigger than the 708. They are also very costly. I have read estimates of anywhere from 15-30 hp gains from the roller rockers and upgraded pushrods. That's not much of a gain for the $$ involved. I am going to them because they are needed with the cam I'm putting in (VERY BIG, hehe).

Sharpi, the "708" cam is the same lift and duration as stock with only the lobe seperation being wider. Thats alot of money and effort for under 10 HP IMO. Jesel makes a set of 1.75:1 rockers which is the highest ratio out there that I know of, the T+D's are actually a little less than stock SRT (1.70 vs. 1.73). I would guess you would make more power with Jesels/good pushrods and the stock cam then you would from the "708" and stock rockers. Since the lift and duration is the same as stock, I dont see a reason to upgrade the springs/retainers. If your doing a blower or turbo, then the "708" (comp coupe) cam seems to be a good choice however. My $.02

So really the only reason i would get a 708 cam is to get the Sound?:dontknow:
(other than for SC purposes) Well, let me ask this. Say i get a custom grind
get some T&D's and upgrade the springs while im at it. what would that run
me? $2000 without labor? Am i better off geting a VEC III and leave it at that?
Thanks for the replies

I've heard from two different builders that Harlands are a waste of money (one said the stockers weren't bad as are, by comparison)

The Jesels are standard on the JM Striker heads. 'Nuff said.;)

Some ball park $$...

T&D's - $1300
Valve Cover Spacers - $475
Cam - $600
Gaskets - $300
Fluids - $100
Pushrods - $200
Labor - $1000

*^^^ MINIMUM expenses ^^^

You can also add tuning (VEC3 -$1300), head work $1500-$3500 depending how far you want to go, valves, springs, retainers, intake porting, throttle body porting, etc.....and the list goes on depending how far you want to take it.
