Well after 11 free years of cable we've been disconnected...I think my family would have been better off having the water shut off. My dad was going crazy yesterday on day 6 of no cable. It was awful, he just kept flippin thru the same 6 channels till he yelled in frustration and went outside. Dinners have been the most uncomfortable, everyone just sits there, eats and looks at one another. We've been looking around and were not sure on what to get. I wanna get cable so i can also get high speed net or dsl because i've had dial up for as long as i can remember and it scks. cant listen to music, watch videos or download sh*t. Any recommendations or leads from so cal members... Thanks

Cable...In my humble opinion

I worked for Time Warner (and cox too) for over 6 years, and I heard a lot of complaints of people switching from dish (thats why I was there). Im sure its probably the other way around for the satalite guys too...its going to turn into a ford/dodge debate im sure :D

If you want the high speed internet, you cant touch cable speeds (for the cost) w/ DSL ot Dish unless you spend some major cash (t1, t3 etc.)

Get cable internet. If you have a TV with cable/antenna option, split the cable signal between the modem and the tv, and voila, you have free cable TV again (guarantee not valid in any of the 48 continental stated)

We put data only filter @ the tap (top of the pole) LOL

I have had Dirrect TV ever since they started up. I love it, and would never go back to cable.

But then, I'm wierd.

Digital Cable here too... Had DISH, it SUCKED!

Got Brighthouse/Roadrunner 10MB/SEC cable internet too. ;) :D :burnout:
Must depend on your area - max of 5MB here.
What is your upload speed?
Can you run a web server and/or mail server, or do they do port blocking?
Are you able to consistently get the full 10MB?
I went to DSL because I rarely could get even half the promised speeds out of cable during prime hours.
And the ports were being blocked on me. Possibly me specificly, because my neighbor is not port blocked.
I've always been able to get max speed of 6MB on DSL since day 1. Actually, it even bumps a bit over to 6.2.
No problems with a web server either. Mail server is still port-blocked tho.
Sorry 'bout the hijak...

bwahahhahaa....hehehhe.....had cable for 1 day.....must be an area thing...cuase digital cable sucked for me....went back to Directv....when the cable guy came to pick up the equipment....he said he has Directv....:D

Just went back to cable after having Directv since they started, and I mean within 3 months of them starting service. The HD service blows, and I will never go back after they tried to rip me off. I bought a new HD DVR last year ($1000), made it just past the one year warranty. So I had to replace it, great deal, they were down to $500, or so I thought. After having more issues with the HD service I decided to cancel and switch to cable just 3 months later. Get this, the bastards wanted the box back. They said that the $500 was just the downpayment on a lease, and that the box was theirs. You can probably imagine what I said to them hehehe. Long story short, I still have the box, but I am sure that I can never get directv again, and they reported to the credit reporting agencies as $500 I didn't pay them. The only way they would ever get this box back is if they came to pick it up in person, and then it would up their ass sideways!

Do like I did with Nextel.... They wanted their phone back when I quit service with them. So I sent it back to them..... in a plastic bag.... AFTER I ran it through the mower. :D

I have DirecTV also. I actually can't get cable where I live, but if I had a choice, I would definately choose cable for the "On Demand" feature. I NEED Howard TV.

must be nice to have options.
damn city folk.

no cable/dsl company serves my house. I have satelite cable/internet. not too bad, but can't play games on satelite internet. :(

it's been my experience that the dishes get a much better quality pic than cable, but have the cost that is much the same as cable once you pay for service extras like: local channel's & extra boxes for each room..... basic cable works for me....... cable internet use to be the fastest, but i think dsl is catching up in speed as well as price..... dsl is a must if you can't get cable in your area, dialup blows.....
i just checked my cable internet speeds: download = ~4mbps & upload = 400kbps... ;)

if you want to test your's, try:
