Disney tickets

I am thinking of taking me and my family to disney during this Thanksgiving (going Jacksonville Thursday then continue on to Orlando after that). Anyone have some tips on getting good hotels or a good price on tickets?

last time i took the family, i just ordered it all thru disney's website & stayed @ one of their onsite hotels using their free shuttles between their parks.... not the cheapest but definitely the easiest.... :)

otherwise, your local travel agent should be able to set you up with a cheaper deal with rooms off site & a rental car.

Cool. I think I want to try and stay onsite like you. I have been multiple times just never on site.

I am curious to see if people had any other tips on getting a decent price? :dontknow:

Wish I did bro.but when you are in the area stop by we will drain the keg,I am not that far from Disney.would be great to see you again.:rock: :rock: :rock:
 
I stayed onsite as well. You can get some pretty good rates at some of the resorts. We stayed at the one that is supposed to be like the Louisiana swamps or something like that, can't think of the name right now. But it was pretty reasonable. Took 5 of us for a full week including tickets for around 3k a few years ago.
 
Been there probaly 50 times, and onsite is the best way by far. Bus shuttle service is excelent up until the park closes, then its a long line to get back to the room. Very inexpensive ones a good too, All Star Sports or Music, very inexpensive, why pay for an expensive room just to sleep in? You can reserve it online, which I would definately do. Just love the place, I went there on my honeymoon too. Coronado Springs, was very nice, but again a waste for a room to sleep in.

The best one I think is The Polynesian, Monorail runs right to it, no buses at all, very fast to and from the park. BIG ROOMS, very nice.
 
AAA used to offer discounted tickets and package deals. If you're a member or know somebody who is, you may save some $$$
 
Stayed at the Pop Century value resort for a week and used the bus transport to the parks. As was said, the buses are excellent. They run directly from your resort to whatever park you choose and back to your resort. None of this hopping from one resort to another before you get to the park. They offer extra hours to guest staying on Disney property. They either open an hour early or stay open an extra hour. It changes daily and by park.

Thanksgiving is going to be swamped. Expect lines. We went there one year during Thanksgiving hoping that everyone was at grandma's. Nope, everyone was at Mickey's. Thanksgiving and Christmas are some of their busiest times.

Get over to the Disney Movie Studio's and get on main street after dark. The whole street is lit up with dancing lights to music. Be careful of the hot apple cider. It is nuclear hot. Take some warm clothing since it can get chilly there that time of year. Have fun.

Believe it or not I'm a huge Disney fan. We had season passes for Disneyland up until this last year. The twins were conceived at Disneyworld hehehe. We got lucky, we went right at the beginning of October, there was a hurricane that year, had to drive from Tampa in it. But the parks were empty the whole week.

Check out some of the other things to do. We rented jet skis a couple of days, make sure you are the first ones out in the morning, you get to go through all the lakes. We also went parasailing, even took the 4 year old up with us.

The place we stayed was the the Riverside. It was great, even had a boat that you could take down to Downtown Disney, or whatever it is they call it there.

Best vacation I ever had, I would kill to do it again someday.

Hey Bob anytime you want to come to florida to go to disney you are more then welcome to stay with us,we are only about 45 minutes from Disney,plus I have a keg and a lot of steaks for grilling.:rock: :rock: :rock:

Use AAA and stay at Pop Century...very inexpensive and the beds dont squeak too much:rock: :rock: :rock:

We usually go twice a year. The best way I can tell you to save money is to book in advance. The more you book in advance the cheaper it is. Since you are going around Thanksgiving and booking now I can imagine it will be a little expensive.

I highly recommend staying on Disney property. If you do you, are entitled to more hours (magic hours) at the parks, free transport to and from each park every 15 minutes via bus or monorail and also, just not having to worry about finding a place to park.

Disney is broken into 3 groups of hotel systems. You have budget which is equivalent to Holiday Inn. That would be the Disney All Stars hotels. These usually run 80-100 a night. Not expensive at all, BUT I for one will never stay there again. Seems either the walls are paper thin or other people have some REALLY loud obnoxious kids that I would love to lock in a closet. Hey, we're being honest here!

Moderate pricing, your rooms are bigger, and I think the walls are thicker personally. Didn't have to threaten any parents at the moderate places. Not much more is offered for moderate except for room size. These moderate places would be Coronado Springs and Port Orleans. There are others, Im just going off the top of my head.

Then you have upscale. Upscale comes with some beatuiful views of the park, I dont even to begin to know how to spell consierege but those come in the package too, you have access to the monorail, which the monorail only goes to Magic Kingdom and Epcot center. To go to animal Kingdom or HollyWood Studios (they renamed MGM) you still have to go via bus. Being Magic Kingdom and Epcot are the 2 biggest most crowded parks, you'll enjoy direct access to your hotel via monorail. Your upscale places would be The Grand Floridian, Contemporary and Polynesian.

Now there is also one other upscale place, The Swan and Dolphin. You can buy a Disney package and stay at the Swan and Dolphin, BUT, technically its no longer in their system. They no longer offer busses to it so you would have to drive to the parks and also you loses Magic Hour priviledges. So that kind of defeats the purpose of staying there.

This also leads to tickets. I would get hopper passes. Each park has different opening and closing hours. Certain nights of the week 1 park will remain open a few hours later than normal. Get the hopper passes and bounce around from park to park as much as you want working around time restraints. Regualr passes limit you.

And one other small tidbot of information.....Downtown Disney. Lots of people avoid this place because it's mostly shopping area. For the most part it is, but there si a aplce in Downtown Disney called World of Disney. It's a 5 story game room. Not only does it have EVERY arcade game EVER made, it has lots of virtual games, 3-d games and even a roller coaster desinger where you can build your own roller coaster and then ride it!! Yes, I did say ride it! There are even bumper cars that shoot lightweight bowling balls at other cars. IT ROCKS!!!
 
I've never been to Disney World. I think summer 0f 2009 will definately be time for me to take me and my daughter. She'll be 8 by then. A daddy-daughter vacation trip to Disney shouldn't be expensive or difficult.. Great thread; thanks for the idea.:D

Onsite is a great way to stay.
