I have 35% (legal) on my doors. Its just not enough. Should I have the tint place remove and install a darker tint or can/should I have them tint over the current tint? I probably should not go to 5% for ticket reasons but what about 15 or 20%? Would that be a worthwhile difference? Whats the stock back window %? thx

patrick

get them retinted on top of the tint thats already there..thats what i did...and yes it makes a big diffrence....an even better difference since your trucks black

NO!

If you are going to put tint on top of tint go very light, because 20% on top of 35% will be darker the 5% (limo). If you have 35%, either have it removed and put what you want, or put 35% on top of what you have. Just remember tint is not optically perfect, so the more layers you put, the more distortion you will get.

if the tint that is installed is in good condition, i would tint over it. i have 2 layers of tint on my car with absolutly no issues at all. keep in mind that the second layer of tint will require 7-10 days to fully dry, instead of the normal 2-3 days, and thats in the florida sun.

most cars from the factory have the "tinted" option...for the most part, this is a 70% tint, which looks almost like no tint at all. heres a quick formula:

Layers multiply. If you start with the factory tint of 70% and add a 35% layer you get 25%. 0.7 x 0.35 = 0.245 which is what you currently have. Adding another layer. of 70% would of course lower the light reading, 0.7 x 0.35 x 0.7= 0.1715 or 17% tint.

Like begood stated in his post, 0.7 x 0.35 x 0.20 = 0.049 or 5%

The only problem i see is trying to find a tinter that has a 70% tint, and then spending the $$$ for such a light tint. If you are trying to get in the 15-20% range then adding the layer of 70% would do it for you (17%)...on the other hand, removing what you have, and installing a 20%, would give you roughly a 14% tint overall, with less drying time and no issues of bubbling. A lot depends on the tinter and his abilities. If he messes up the tint of the second layer, both layers have to be removed in order to fix it.

In my case, 0.7 (70% factory) x 0.2 (20% first layer) x 0.05 (5% second layer)= 0.007 less than 1%...1% is the light meter reading or how much light is coming through...and i had the pleasure of paying a ticket to the Casselberry Police Dept when they decided to check my tint.

remove 35 and put 20...
limo is tough at night

If the tint has been on for more than a couple of years, I would strip the doors and re-tint with 20%. That would be closest to the factory rear slider.

I tried 20% over 35% that I had done on the front doors when I first bought the Jeep, but didn't like the look, so I stripped the front doors and just went with 5%....which is what I should have done all along. Now I have 5% on the front doors and 5% over the factory 20% in the rear section.....

Looks pretty sikk on a black vehicle....IMO.

Just go with 5%, /yes it is dark but you will get used to it in no times. By the way dont I had it done one and I just couldnt handle the distortion

thats what I did on my black QC...my eyes are sensitive to light. 5% all around, barely could see out of the back. and I night I had to roll down the windows to see street signs. also I did a 5% banner across the top of the windshield...looked real good.

is there such a thing as tinted replacement windows, like the back glass, in different %'s ??????

35% on the whole
windshield sweet thats what my truck has

Me too! Just had my entire windshield done today in 35% ( i have a 5% strip that i had put on months ago across the top, which i left on...had the 35% laid down on top) It looks great, i'll try to post some pics soon...its not bad at all to drive at night, i just drove 20 miles w/ no problems. (kinda like driving with smoked headlight covers on) My side and rear windows are all 15% by the way.
