Lt. Gen. Douglas Lute
WASHINGTON — Frequent tours for U.S. forces in Iraq and Afghanistan have stressed the all-volunteer force and made it worth considering a return to a military draft, President Bush's new war adviser said Friday.

"I think it makes sense to certainly consider it," Army Lt. Gen. Douglas Lute said in an interview with National Public Radio's "All Things Considered."

"And I can tell you, this has always been an option on the table. But ultimately, this is a policy matter between meeting the demands for the nation's security by one means or another," Lute added in his first interview since he was confirmed by the Senate in June.

President Nixon abolished the draft in 1973. Restoring it, Lute said, would be a "major policy shift" and Bush has made it clear that he doesn't think it's necessary.

The repeated deployments affect not only the troops but their families, who can influence whether a service member decides to stay in the military, Lute said.

"There's both a personal dimension of this, where this kind of stress plays out across dinner tables and in living room conversations within these families," he said. "And ultimately, the health of the all-volunteer force is going to rest on those sorts of personal family decisions."

I seriously doubt that Bush would reinstate the draft....

Not unless we were attacked by a large force on our own soil.....

Don't bet on it..............That is a Big pile of crap he would love to leave on Hillary's door step.................................!!!!:p

Besides, the Democrats would take all the heat in the final end of it.

All of Bush's Republican buddies would get fat wallets and be quite happy. After all, as you know, no form of Democracy has ever had a continued existence without war. I guess this is because the Republicans need to make alot of money.

And, as usual, the young folks and the American public will take it in the arss....

Don't get me wrong , I am a true supporter of our troops, however I personally am tired of Not getting the job done just to drag it out for
Blood Money:(

to date only dems have suggested a draft, not gonna happen. There are plenty of brave men and women that will love to be part of a change that is 4,000 years in the making.

GOD bless them.

Mods y'all might want to get ahead of this thread and get'er over to the OFF section!:)

The man was a Pilot in a jet plane called the WIDOW MAKER. He's not a retard, he just doesn't talk real well in front of people. I've miss spelled things or typed run on's and got flammed, on a silly forum, think about being up there in front of all the haters. I respect the hell out of him but I wouldn't want to be him in this age of PUS$IES and sheeple.

I think everyone should do at least 2 years unless you have a family hardship- it would open the eyes of alot of people and give alot of direction to the youth of today who take all our freedoms for granted and wanted everything handed to them or have the self entitlement complex- this is a bit of a broad statement but you get what i mean......
