Drain, Flush and Refill

heyy anyone know how do drain, flush and refill the coolant? teach me how to do it in correct way
also what is the things that i should not to do during the drain, flush and refill?

The radiator petcock has a small (3/8 or 7/16 maybe) nipple on it. Get under there and look at it, then get some small rubber hose to slip over the nipple and drain the radiator into a bucket. If you just try to drain the radiator with a bucket the antifreeze will run all down into your front facia and you will have a mess.

After you refill it, you need to get the motor up to operating temp and bleed off the air from the system using the bleeder valve on the thermostat housing.

Other than that, the drain/flush/refill should be just like any other.
 
oh jeez i hope i wont get any antifreeze on all over my face lol, ok but where is the radiator petcock? i know it is under of truck but where is it, ya know what im talking abt?
 
If your under the truck from the front, it is on the left (driver side) bootom of the radiator.
 
Just get under there and look at the radiator. You can't miss it...if you do miss it....lol you better get a shop to do your flush and refill. :p

Add some Water Wetter. you can get it at most any auto supply shop.
 
lol thanks, i wont miss it and why water wetter? why not use regular water?
 
Bro the only way to truly "flush the system" is to take it to a dealer.

Vipe92338594985:D told you the correct way to refill coolant that you removed, but to "flush" it you need to run clean coolant or water thru the entire system, that usually takes a machine to do,

I could tell ya how to do it at home, but you may run the risk of running the truck hot, or get burned yourself, and most definitly make a real big mess.

So if ya want to replace some of the coolant go with what viper 9233 said, if ya want it flushed go to a dealer, DONT GO TO JIFFY LUBE!!:D
 
Water Wetter is an additive. The claims are it can reduce coolant temps like some 30F. Not really true. Water Wetter helps reduce hot spots within the engine passages by changing the surface tension on the exposed surfaces. Good stuff but more importantly be sure and use distilled water when mixing with your coolant of choice....speaking of which (coolant type) can be another looooonng thread onto itself.

All true. Its always a good idea to flush the system throughly. Depending on the vehicle you can get nearly all the coolant out of the system via radiator and engine plugs. In this case I'll use the vacuum method for refill. Nice part with this is I can double check the integrity of the coolant system (leaks) and don't have to work about vapor locks or bleeding.

Electrolysis is our biggest concern. Electrolysis is a process of chemical changes in the cooling system that allows electrical current to pass through the engine coolant. This is from dissimilar metals in contact with the coolant (much like a battery) and/or electrical current is passed through, because the engine serves as a pathway to ground between the battery negative cable and the negative terminals of various electrical components. Dirty or loose ground connections can increase voltage flow through the cooling system. Remember, electricity takes the path of least resistence and your coolant can become an the "alternative" ground for your bikes electrical system.

Your coolant has additives to protect your engine. Overtime these additives are removed/lost due to exposure, heat and electrolysist. Maintaining good coolant with the proper amount of corrosion inhibitors to protect against rust, oxidation and electrolysis is critical to long life of our pride and joy.

So how do you know the condition of your coolant if electrolysis is occuring. My personal opinion considering our engines makeup is if your coolant is two years old its PAST time to flush and replace. Coolant can rapidly deteriorated by year two in a mixed metal environment.

To check for electrolysis is quite simple. First step is to bring the engine up to normal operating temps. Next, using a digital voltmeter place the negative lead to the battery negative post and the positive lead into the coolant. A voltage reading above .300 V can cause severe corrosion and damage to metal surfaces
 
wow i never knew that too, but thanks chuck! i prefer try it myself first if i couldnt do it then i will take it to dealer. but same time i want to save money by do it myself instead take it to dealer, ya know

how much does that mopar antifreeze and water wetter cost? and where can i get one? also where should i pour the water wetter in? should i get 3 gallon of antifreeze? two for radiator and one for bucket?

Patrick has the mopar fluids.
With Water Wetter you don't need any anti-freeze, actually works better (stated)without it (distilled water). However, don't freeze up your engine in Washington State, ohhhh sorry Silverback, forgot about the F.S.H. :D

I paid $12.50 for the antifreeze...(pick up from dealer..but you might not get it for $12.50:dontknow: and something like 7 bucks for the Water Wetter. (Advanced Automotive, Pep Boys, Auto Zone)

you can mix your antifreeze in a seperate container suitable for filling the radiator...just make sure its clean.

Depending on your location it would be best to run the antifreeze at it's correct dilution... last thing as Bone stated "you freeze it"
Watter Wetter does not address freezing....so it's best to use it with antifreeze if your prone to sub zero's.
It can be used with just water...distilled or not...again does not address freezing.
I have not decided to flush...then fill or not. Since the system was already evacuated at the track...I had no option of puting distilled back into it readily available...so it got tap water.:( :dontknow:
I was already running the Water Wetter.

So when I get the rest of the parts in I will make the decision...I can have it flushed at the local dealer ...but I really would prefer they leave the hood closed...:rofl: :rofl: :rofl:
So most likely it will be a driveway job....
I will just drop the hoses after I drain radiator...drain the reservoir.... recycle the old anti freeze....pull thermostat housing...swap t-stat's....replace with the JBM set-up I ordered...then mix all new fluid in a 2 gallon container...then fill.... burp the pitcock...run her up to temp...hit the heater..fill as needed.... making sure the reservoir is full.......
let her cool....top it off. Should be full at the radiator cap...as it should draw needed anti-freeze from the reservoir as the truck cools.
I will be running 50/50 mix...unless there is a better recommendation out there...I have not looked it up yet.
