For those of you who have the problem of your RPMS taking forever to get down to Idle ( mine would stick at around 1700 RPM's and i would have to tap the accelerator)!!

I went and bought a new TPS ($26.00) and installed it. No more throttle stick!!

Truck seems to run smoother also!!

FUNNY U MENTION THAT. MY TRUCK HAS BEEN DOING THE SAME THING. GUESS ITS TIME TO UPGRADE A BIT. THANKS MR. T!

WELL I AM NO GEAR HEAD SO HOPEFULLY MY DUMBARSS CAN DO IT ALL BY MYSELF.....

Stand directly in front of the engine, look forward at the intake and on the end of the intake is the throttle body, on the left side of the throttle body , opposite side of the cables and linkage, you will find the throttle position sensor, and like they say , jsut unplug it, use a torx driver, (found at local parts houses and sears) remove and then jsut do everything in reverse.

I am very surprised as many throttle bodies as I have had on mine, and the number of times the tps has been on and off I (knock on wood:D ) havent had problems yet:D

SOB. finally!!!! never could figure it out. every car ive ever had would fall on its face if the tps went bad, so i never thought of it!!! THANK YOU

I can go ya one dumber than that...........WTF is a TPS..........:dontknow:

it tells the computer the percentage the throttle is open. that way the computer knows how much air it should be getting, and other parameters. i have just never seen one go bad without the vehicle shutting off whenever the throttle is applied. awesome i finally found this, well you found this and i found the thread. thanks again

Son of a biznitch...I was wondering what the hell was going on. I thought it had to do with my clutch and was starting to freak out. Where did you buy from?

Any dealer!!

Note to evryone!! When you install the new one you have to turn it counter clockwise a hair to get it to seat, once it's in turn it back clockwise until the holes line up. If you do it the opposite way it will open your throttle.

take note of what position it is in before you remove it from the tb its clocked just a bit so when you put back in it will be in the same place;) :burnout:

I would not go out and replace a TPS unless you know for sure it is faulty. There are a couple things that influence your engines return to idle. One is the throttle follower, which is programming in the PCM that steps the Idle Air Control (IAC) motor to bring the engine gracefully back to idle. The other is the IAC itself, which may just require cleaning. I can verify some things this evening if I have time by plugging the old laptop in and check the voltage feedback to PCM from the sensors to see what the TPS is registering after you immediately let off the throttle.

How it all works...
Unlike a carburetor, which always has the throttle blade partially cracked to allow idle air by, a throttle body closes tight not letting any air by. There is a small air bypass circuit that is regulated by the PCM through the IAC motor. When you let off of the throttle to 0% open, then throttle follower programming steps the IAC motor at intervals allowing a smooth part throttle to no throttle air transition. If you did not have a throttle follower, the engine would just stall when you left off the throttle. If there is no malfunction with the TPS, then I would check to make sure your IAC motor is not fouled resulting in a slow return to idle response. If both are in good shape, then it is the programming used to regulate the throttle follower.

Great info Muzz!!

Although when I replaced mine it definitely cured the sticking at around 1700 RPMS. I could get it to go to normal whith a tap on the accelerator. Now it goes directly down to 1000 Rpms pauses for a short moment then drops to 740ish. That is how I remember it being when I first got the truck.

I also noticed that the TPS actually is spring loaded so maybe it was a little worn otu or was catching??

Anyway, it is running better now!!:D

here are a couple of photos for those who were wondering what the TPS Looks like!!
