I know that these trucks are built differently than a normal passenger car, or 4X4 truck, but I have a question about the transmission and drive shaft.

Is it normal for the drive shaft to make a lot of noise when the tranny down-shifts, or when it shifts at low speeds?

Let me clarify a lot of noise: It is more like A noise, and it is a clunking sound. Like metal on metal. I suppose it could be the U-Joints, but it sounds like the drive shaft hits especially hard.

Anybody else?

TIA

Could be backlash in the rear axle, have it professionally checked.

Also check your center bearing for excesse play, basically too much up and down movement.

also in older chevy's they had the same problem and we removed the driveshaft and lubed the splines where it entered the tranny, it helped some.
