Very random, makes a hard knock sound once every 45 seconds to 2 minutes or so...I can even hear it cruising down the road, every few minutes or so, just one tap at a time.

Here's the kicker, I stopped and put gas in her and check the oil, and with the engine off and keys in my pocket, it did it three times in the time it took me to put gas in it, with the engine off and keys in my pocket!!! When its off sounds like the engine cooling and a random crack/pop, but no reason it should do that riding.

I'm thinking maybe an electronic at the back of the driver side valve cover? I'm stumped!

Go catless... I get that noise once in a while when warming up and when it's off cooling down.

I had the same sound when it started to get really cold outside, crawled under and it was coming from my front right cat.

Its probably the heat shields for the exhaust manifolds one or more of the tack welds let go. When it heats up the metal expands and makes a popping sound coming from the head area. I had the same thing happen to me with mine and found it was the heat shield.

Good thinking!!!!
