I understand...just an option...the 440 would probably run around $500 more than a 392 and put out around 550HP N/A..

Did they lock your torque converter with the pulls? If not you left about 30hp or so on the table. I did a couple of stock HEMI's at between 270-290whp locking the T/C in drive.
I never liked doing autos because of 2 things:
Locking up the Torque Converter
Keeping the vehicle from kicking down a gear when you get on it

i think he did because he was bitching about 1 guy,s truck not locking up but he told me with a few more tweek,s i could get a little more out like u said about 30-40 but with the motor blown up to late to find out
