Has anyone one looked into or done any mods that have improved the fuel economy and still produce more power in the v10 motor...

i'm thinkin about installing a CAI on my 05 QC. Supposed to give a little more mpg. Can anyone that has done this mod tell? and what brand should i buy that gives a mean sound?

A lot of mods have the potential to do both becasue they make the engine more efficient, but as with most things, it requires that you drive the same way to produce the desired results (economy). My experience is that the meaner things are, the meaner you drive them, thus the net effect is less (or the same) ecomony and more fun...:D

Improve fuel economy!! are you kidding. I'm sure we all want to save on fuel.
But a Viper v10 and 5600lbs forget it. I tried driving like Grandma and still get like 9 to 10 mpg:dontknow:

On the highway in cruise my grandma gets 19 Mpg!

My truck came stock with a wonderful economy feature...I just seldom use it...6th gear.

Hey prof thats a Great Idea. But everyone in here drives like a Madman anyways:rock:

If I get on it or drive slow I am usually around 11 MPG!!! Just buy stock in exxon or some other company of the like!!!

qc is tough,i'm looking into changing the rearend to a 4:11 to give me lower rpms at 80mph ,hence better mpg

It would probably be much more expensive, but changing your overdrive gear in the transmission would get you increased MPG, and you'd be able to retain your off-the-line power. Assuming this is even possible/available?:dontknow:

probably right but the qc is just my work truck,it has close to 65k on the motor already and i'm looking at ways to ease the wear on the motor, dropping 500 rpms off will save gas and add a few miles to the engines life ,my rc can goto the track:rock:

But it would make the Engine work harder every time you come off a light................
500 rpms less constant at 80 mph as opposed to a few hundred random rpms,i'll take the 500

That's like buying a RPG launcher and asking if it has a "wound" mode

That's what I meant when I suggested the possibility of changing your transmissions overdrive gear ratio.

The first three gears would stay the same for 'around town' driving, but on the highway in overdrive, you could drop the engine's speed further than stock for increased MPG.

I just don't know if anyone makes the parts to do this?:dontknow:

Hell, I don't think there's much one can do about around town and city driving mpg's... It is what it is... A 500 HP V-10 Viper motor!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I feel damn lucky to squeeze out about 17-18 mpg's on the highway in 6th gear so that's fine by me... I'll enjoy the truck while I can!!!!!!!! :burnout: :burnout:

Here's a real fuel saving idea......... Sell your truck and buy a Prius.....

.....or just leave it in the fkn garage .......:dontknow: ;) :D

My advice after 3 years of owning mine..............just put the computor on temperature...........never put it on MPG!!!!;) LOL......its kinda pointless with 500 HP to think about MPG......enjoy the power!!

patrick

ive accepted my 12-13 mpg's..before i even bought the truck................i believe thats why we all have 2nd cars.................why not just buy some beat up civic, get your mpg's and use your truck for fun
