That shouldn't bother the O2 but I thought you would want the EGT close to the exhaust ports at the heads :dontknow:

i dont think that it matters. My truck runs like shit, something is wrong with the O2 sensor. I have gone through 3 sensors, im stumped:dontknow:

egt sensors should have no affect on the o2 sensor.

David you are correct the EGT thermocouples should be about 2" from the port at the head.
Below is a cut and paste from the installation instruction sheet of Race Data, data logger. These are the data logging systems I run.

EGT thermocouple weldment location
Thermocouples are .187" or 3/16"diameter. Our thermocouples are designed to use a weldment compression fittings which are supplies. To obtain accurate EGT temperature readings it is important that the placement of the EGT weldments should be as close to the header flange as possible, 2 inches is ideal but up to 4 inches is acceptable. It is very important that the weldments be located in a consistent location on all header pipes. It is critical for accuracy that all weldments are a equidistance from the header flange. After the weldments have been welded to you header pipe tubes, drill an access hole through the weldment through the header pipe using a 3/16" drill enlarging the hole for proper size so that the access hole is large enough to accept the EGT thermocouple.

I have everything installed properly, I dont know why the CEL keeps coming on? Sometimes my truck doesnt even like to idle:dontknow:

Just for clarification are you talking about a wideband reader o2 sensor, or exhaust gas temperature pyrometer probes?

Its telling me that the sensor has high of a voltage. When I disconnect my battery and reset it the light will go off for a while then it'll come right back on. When the CEL is on my truck runs like crap, if I get the VEC3 will that make it run better since I have no cats?

No the VEC modifies the sensor output only.

Everything needs to be working properly, fix the problem before installing the VEC.
